Go target shooting and try and hit a man sized target 300 yards out (a short shot for a sniper by the way). Then come back and tell us how you were wrong.

300 yards is a cakewalk even with a M16, 500 metres is tricky on the M16 but doable.

I once tried a Sako TRG chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum when I served in the danish army, I got 3 out of 5 targets at 1000 metres, but I doubt very much that I'd get even 1 good hit at that range outside the controlled environment of the firing range.

IRL snipers are unique individuals - after a certain range, better equipment alone is not enough to hit a target, you need special training which involves breath and muscle control, reading wind/heat currents, humidity, exact range detection, etc.. and that is not considering the other things a sniper actually does.

Although I totally agree with Lithium that to be a US military sniper takes extensive training and skill sets few people have, the question in my mind is why anyone would aspire to become a sniper. As one of those required skill sets is a lack of morality
and a playing God Mindset.

Just because some idiot with more stripes than you have tells you or me that cold blooded murder is OK, does make it so in the eyes of "God."

i think you'll find thats a load of bullshit if you've ever read any autobiographies of military snipers.

Why is this called a skilled professional? Anyone can be a sniper. Yes or no?

When I think of a profession in which I could never become proficient, I think of professional snipers.

The required skill, training, and talent are overwhelming.
