Hello everybody,

For some time i have been programming using an ATMEL SAM7S256.
Because i was busy with the new house, i had no time for it until now.
Under Window XP it worked great but under windows 7 it odes not work.
I used SAMBA V2.7 but it will not function.

First my SAM7S256 was recognized by windows as a gps camera.
After a little searching, Atmel has a notice about it. It turns out that windows recognize the part wrong and loads the wrong driver.

After downloading SAMBA V2.12 and re installing the driver i now have an AT91 USB to serial converter with an comport.

Unfortunately SAMBA V2.12 did recognize my MCU but refuses to connect.
But now after applying the patch 5 for I get an error screen with handlers having errors.

Has anybody else had such errors ?
SAMBA used to work great under windows xp, but now since i have windows 7 64 bit it does not work anymore.

I googled but have not found any solution.

I will also post this in the AT91 forum.

Thank you in advance for any help.

did you try it with win xp in vmware?

I am still trying to get it running.

I have the free VMware version running windows xp and it works almost perfect.
It takes 5 to 10 minutes before my usb flash disk is recognized after i connect it. That is my only disappointment.

I do not yet have found the time and energy to dig into vmware to make a home network. It would be nice if i could just share a folder common between windows 7 and windows xp and that it updates instantly.

I am installing the software now under wxp/vmware.

SAMBA V2.12 is just not functioning.

Also not under wxp/vmware.

It does not pop up the main window it is supposed to do.

I am sad to say that i am one of the few who has encountered this problem.

I can try to connect to the debug uart port of my sam7s256.
But that is a step back in speed and ease of use.

Made a shared folder between wxp/vmware and w7,

I tried it with the old software SAMBA V2.7.
Installed Atmel ISP1.11 software.
Installed the old driver for the SAM7S256..EK-board.

It works again with SAMBA 2.7 under wxp/vmware.
But it is slow as hell.

No fun to program like this. Way to many frustrating intermediate steps to program my device. Very sloppy error from microsoft to download the wrong driver from windows update. It seems it is known but microsoft has not yet updated their driver library.

I can program again but it is no fun like this.

To be honest, i also do not understand why the SAMBA 2.12 does not function as it should do. Disappointing indeed. Perhaps i can get SAMBA 2.7 up and running on W7 with the old driver. I overlooked that option.

Sigh, the old atm6124.inf and atm6124.sys are not allowed to be installed under W7.

The new cdc version just does not function with SAMAB2.12 under windows 7.

CRAP !!!

Well, this is bad news :

SAMBA V2.12

Known Issues
---------
- Some boards cannot connect though USB CDC to a chip (with USB Full Speed) on AMD
based computers.
- Some boards cannot work properly through USB/COM port connection without reseting
( or, power off / power on) the board.

I have an AMD based computer.

:(

Well, it is doable, the new cdc inf file "atm6124_cdc.inf" from the SAMBA 2.12 installation works together under VMWARE with SAMBA V2.7. I can at least program my device again. It turns the mcu into a usb to serial device. Because the host OS is W7 , i need the new inf file from the SAMBA 2.12. installation. The driver is the general usbser.sys from microsoft to operate cdc devices.
SAMBA 2.12 will not work, also not under VMware with wxp.
But SAMBA 2.7 does.

Yahoo. I had quite a few updates installed from microsoft for my windows 7 x64 installation since November 2013. And now it works. I suspect one of the updates solved this issue.
The SAMBA 2.12 program now also works natively under w7-64.
Now i no longer have to use vmware to program my mcu. :)

Install xp on a 2nd hard drive. Although if it is talking over a COM port then windows 7 should be able to do it just fine.
