Yeah, I got the first notification straight from Wal-Mart saying a product "is back in stock" at 11:29 PM ET.

According to the chat at Nowinstock that I watched immediately after placing my order, the "Oops" page appeared approximately 40 minutes after it went live, so around 12:09 AM ET.

So I'm guessing they went up prematurely? Did they tell you why they canceled it?

Thank you for your interest in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System – Classic Edition. As you are aware, this is a highly sought after console that will launch later this fall.

Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, the Super Nintendo Classic Edition was mistakenly made available last Friday evening ahead of the official release date. We, regrettably, will have to cancel this item on your order. We know that this is incredibly disappointing to you, and we’re truly sorry for this mistake.

In regards to the cancellation of this item, if you paid by credit card, your card has not been charged. Any authorization holds placed on your account will automatically expire in accordance with the card issuer's policy. If you paid through PayPal or with a gift card, your payment will be refunded when the order is cancelled.

The official launch date for this item is 9/29, please check the product page on Walmart.com prior to that date for any updates.

I do hope you’ll give us another chance to earn back your business.

Warm regards,
Deserie Dulaney

Some folks on slickdeals posted a follow up email saying their order date was changed...so it's really bizaare right now.

I for one, have gotten only the cancellation email, but if I got to my account online, the order is still there with a ship date of 10/4.

I saw an article with walmart saying the pre-orders went up to soon, but didn't know they were cancelling them.

Also, N64 classic is confirmed!

Kinda reminds me of that Go God Go episode from South Park where Cartman's dying to get his hands on Wii.

Also, N64 classic is confirmed!

Looks like their new business model maybe. Personally, I felt SNES had more classics than 64 but some of the N64 titles were just sweet. 😀

Link to N64C confirmation? I've seen the speculation over the trademark filing of the controller outline, but no actual confirmation of a console in the works.

I hope instead of emulating it in 320x240 that they actually design the device to run N64 games in 960x720 natively. It wouldn't take much power. Hell, the original NES Classic is said to have more power than the original Wii.
It's not about capability, it's about development resources. They can't dive back in to the source code of all the games to make proper 16:9 ports or else the thing wouldn't be under $100. Those people need to be making Switch games. I do wonder if we will be able to buy compatible control sticks to refurbish classic N64 controllers. That didn't really work out with the $10 NES controllers though. 🙁

That's what I'm hoping for, too. I know the speedrunning community would love to have an brand new official analog stick.

The thing I'm curious about, from the images of the SNESC, what input connector do the controllers use? From the front of the console, it looks like a miniturized SNES controller port, and not the Wiimote port that the NESC had.

Those are rubber covers that reveal the same connectors used by NES Classic and Wii Remote accessories.

Seems to be trivial to make Gameshark cheats for wide-screen on most games. Probably something to do with common devkit graphics initialization library that had an aspect ratio option most developers never changed from 4:3. I do recall that Goldeneye 007 had a proper anamorphic widescreen option without any hacking.

Mario Kart 64 requires a different Gameshark cheat for each mode or number of players, and you can't enable them all simultaneously or they cause a conflict. I'd like to put some hacked ROMs on the Ultra EverDrive 64 so the source values in ROM are modified and set appropriately. Then you could play any mode and with 16:9 default, no need to toggle the correct set of Gameshark cheats.

They can't pretend to be caught completely off guard by demand unless they limit preorders to as few retailers as late as absolute possible.

I know. Let's not forget who you're talking to here. 😛 Perhaps I should have worded it better though. "Before Mania, Sonic had not been relevant in over a decade". That's as opposed to Mario who has had nothing but top notch main series offerings from the beginning. Even most of the spin off Mario games have historically been better than most Sonic main series offerings as of late. One can only hope that Mania is not a one off so much as a taste of what is to come.

Well I'm screwed. 🙁 My mother called me up to say she didn't have enough money to get through the month and would be overdrawn if she did not get money in her bank monday. I had just over $90 in the bank to cover the SNES Classic and six dollars sales tax but with 80 of it gone to help keep my mother afloat, it looks like I'll be camping out like an idiot next month. 🙁 Damn authorization charges. I'll have enough by late September and that's when your card actually gets charged for real. But if it's not in your bank when you push the preorder button, you're SOL.

My buddy brought over his Pi3 running RetroPie 2 weekends ago and I've now decided to just go that route instead of dealing with the headache of trying to track this stuff down.
