Did you guys know it's easy to basically build one of these yourself (and put as many games as you want on it) with a raspberry pi?

I think I might go that route and stop worrying about these limited run things.

Of course, hell you can run emulators on your phone. But this comes in a cool box with the real controllers, plus you're not breaking the law by downloading games you don't own.

They make pretty cool raspberry pi cases, and plenty of USB controller options that mimic the originals. I'm putting together plans on building my own switch style emulator so I can click it into a mobile screen, or in a dock to play on the TV. No idea when I'll actually get to building it, but if I do it right it could be awesome.

I have. It's cool, but it doesn't have the real final version of Starfox 2. The Starfox 2 ROMS on the internet are all early betas.

I didn't take the NES Classic seriously (it was never my favorite console), but with the gamelist I have to own one of these. I preordered on Amazon UK (for like $90+ shipped) but I will cancel that as soon as I get a US pre-order.

I want one because setting up a UI easy enough for my wife to use is a major pain in the rear end. I want something that's easy to set up and my wife can use without me.

Exactly

I actually built myself a Raspberry Pi late last year and yes I can get everything on it but this is so much easier to just boot up and play with a very easy to use interface. I want this for the same reason, so my fiancée can easily play these awesome classic gaming gems that she has never played.

I had a 50/50 shot that you would be the first one to say something like this.

You guys are fun

But seriously, it's like the same thing right? What's so special about Nintendo doing it?
Serious question - do you think people not wanting to be involved in piracy is not a legit enough reason or something?

Yeah I'm with you guys saying that Nintendo will make like 100 of these(joke number of course) and claim ignorance about the popularity.

No...though there are people saying emulation isn't always accurate etc. The input lag alone with the retro NES made some games impossible to play. How good do you think this will be?

Yeah, that's why I don't want to get my hopes up. Somebody on youtube made the point that the nes classic was kind of a marketing gimmick to keep the nintendo brand relevant while they didn't put any new products out last holiday season. I want this one a lot more than the nes one tho 🙁

So you think that people not wanting to partake in illegal activity is not a valid reason to purchase a legit SNES classi? I'm not sure what the rest of your post had to do with what you quoted of mine.

not really

It's up to you and your conscience if you want to illegally download roms, you always have the option of ripping the carts yourself which is about the only option left when Nintendo doesn't make enough of these things. Hopefully they get their asses in gear and give us all what we want, but I'm not holding my breath.

LOL wow, I guess I shouldn't be surprised on a tech forum.

That would be a great lesson to teach your kids. Steal software and play it instead of paying for it.

And I used to be the biggest pirate there is with over 1500 psx games at one point. Haven't done it in like a decade though. But I definitely understand other points of view even if they are different than mine.

I would love to pay for it, but if Nintendo doesn't make enough how can I? I already did pay for all this crap at some point, I unfortunately gave it away to a family member when I outgrew it and got the next console. That still doesn't make it right, but the whole point is that this argument is moot as long as Nintendo doesn't hose us again.

Nintendo Fans: "Shut up and take my money!"
Nintendo: No.

Fair enough and yes I can see that point of view. It's kind of hard to buy the product if you simply cannot find it to purchase.

All these "you can make the same thing with a Pi" people are only saying that so there are fewer people buying the SNES Classic, increasing their chances of getting one. Not gonna fool me!

Yesterday I checked Game and pre-orders were available, but for 80GBP plus international shipping to the US, it wasn't really worth it for me. I'm mainly in it for Star Fox 2, so if I can't find one it's no big deal.

What it will look like a few years after you get it:
