Sneaky Amazon

Yesterday one of my friends overseas wired me some money to get the most obnoxious dollhouse I could find for my daughter for Christmas.
Looked around and amazon was the cheapest. I have prime shipping and figured it would not be a problem ordering so close to Christmas. Still 5 business days left.

Amazon stated that in order to get it before Christmas, I needed to upgrade to 1 day shipping. Ok, fine. I spent the $25 (dollhouse weighs some 90 pounds) and received my order confirmation that stated the estimated delivery is 12/24.

This morning I received an update stating the package is out for delivery today and will arrive before 20:00.

Looks like amazon decided to make a little extra profit on this one and charge me the additional $25. Not that big a deal, but annoying nonetheless that they used scare tactics when they clearly could have allowed the 2 day prime shipping to get the item to me well before Christmas Eve.

guaranteed 2 day shipping would have meant it arrived on the 19th. 2.5 buffer days (some packages will deliver on Saturday) and you got suckered into overnight shipping?

Yep, I sure did.

Usually ships within 3 to 5 days.
Ships from and sold by Amazon.com.

Nice way for them to get the extra money out of people.

To be honest, with all the extra packages being shipped this time of year for certain areas of the country it would take that long for the package to arrive, they don't know ahead of time exactly when the package will arrive, they promised you the package would be there before Christmas if you paid for the 1 day shipping, were they wrong? No. But you probably could have gotten it by Christmas with 2 day shipping, they wouldn't guarantee that though. You paid $25 for a guarantee.

which dollhouse?

i guess next time dont wait until right before christmas?

And as mentioned in the OP, one of my friends from Sweden wired me some money yesterday and told me to buy the most obnoxious dollhouse I could find for my daughter for Christmas.

What was I going to do, tell him no, I will not do that since it is too close to Christmas and that he should have thought of this earlier in the month?

Why did your friend have to wire you money for it? Was it their gift to your daughter?

Yes, it is his gift to my daughter. Well, it will be from Santa via him. He lives way up north in Sweden, so we told my daughter he lives near Santa since he does have reindeer that walk through his backyard from time to time.
He was going to wait until May when he visits to give her a Christmas gift but figured that was lame so he wired me some funds to get something for her.

the one that says right on it:

Usually ships within 3 to 5 days.
Ships from and sold by Amazon.com.
Ordering for Christmas? This item requires additional time to ship and will arrive after December 25. Need a gift quickly? E-mail or print an Amazon.com Gift Card.

there are a million other dollhouses on amazon that DONT say this. YOU picked this one. so, YOU pay the extra 25 dollars.

YOU, my friend. Next time, pick one that doesnt cost an extra 25.00 to make it there on time.

As the kids these days say: Sorry, not sorry.

You paying for 1 days also means it gets moved up in line faster from the warehouse.

Free $35 shipping < Reg Prime < 1 day Prem shipping

Well aware of that.
My point, since obviously you do not understand, is that I think it is sneaky of amazon to state it requires 1 day shipping to arrive by 12/24 since it takes 3-5 days to process this order when in fact it did ship out same day for arrival the next.

Apparently you got lucky. Sometimes it takes longer to ship. Maybe you're near the warehouse. Don't wait till the last minute to order a ridiculously large item and complain about the price of express shipping.

Talk about first world problems.

and my point, since YOU don't understand, is that CLEARLY STATING on the product page that an item requires extra processing/shipping time is not sneaky.
You could have picked one of the many many dollhouses that didn't require you to pay the extra fee, but you didn't. That's not a scare tactic. That's not sneaky.

You seem to think they KNEW it would NOT take 3-5 days, do you honestly think amazon would do that just on the off chance you would be perusing that item and want to buy it for christmas, when hundreds of thousands of other items of more and less value don't have the 3-5 day estimate to ship out. all of this for an extra $25?

sneaky not found.

you paid for the guarantee... and their database probably had no way of knowing that the package would get to you within 1 day either way, they just have the generic estimates. it's not like there's some devious human at the switch.
