Sigh, I guess there are some people that assume that everyone plays WoW.

Some people want to play with a mature crowd, and as such, play better games. EQ2, Eve, etc all have healthy communities and active development.

250,000 subscribers or so is more than double digits. Wait, I suck at math, let me count to make sure. Yep, a quarter million is more than double digits.

Even Horizons has more than double digits.

EQ2 is more than worth the subscription fee for me.
I started withy EQ1 years ago when it first launched and played for several years.
Wow never interested me, its just not what I find fun.
EQ2 though I like a lot.

If you want to play wow doesn't bother me one bit.
Some of us prefer EQ2.
If it bothers you that someone has an opinion different from yours, you really need to grow up.

Ah ha! Both of you are in here now! Guess that means the servers are empty at the moment.

Not much of an update... I thought they had promised us Kunark status recipes. Might be they will only be added later. The mannequins should be interesting but beyond that, it looks like a slow month to me. Hopefully the next one will introduce the recipes and some 70-80 heritage quests.

It's funny how the Wow players are such rabid fanboys... I know Eq2 might not make you wet like playing your precious World of Warcraft but It's a great game with a great community. You can have your opinion of it if you want, but at least present it productively.

Nah, there's just a few people here that think SOE is Satan incarnate. Completely baseless of course, its nothing but fanboism.

Incidentally, thats just a sneak peak. Its not the entire GU, just a few things they are putting in the game.

The biggest lols so far:

-I don't play EQ2 or WoW, never have, likley never will.

-I have nothing against SOE. I couldn't care less about SOE, I'm sure they've made some fine games. Wouldn't know, haven't played any of them. That whole Star Wars: Galaxies teleporting-players-into-space thing seemed pretty mean, but I wouldn't call 'em the devil.

-Who exactly is being fanboyed for by making fun of EQ2? I don't see any posts in here where anyone has offered any alternative games or claimed any allegiances, other than the EQ2ers. Matter of fact, the only people who have made any claims about who plays what are the EQ2 folks, and they appear to be guessing blindly.

- People play Everquest 2?

So . . . basically, I can sum you up in a nut shell with the following.

-You've never played EQ2 or WoW
-don't care one way or another about SOE
-judge EQ2's popularity by the number of EQ2 related posts at AT:pC Gaming
-Since you've never played EQ2, you have no knowledge of the game, yet claim EQ2 players are guessing blindly when they talk about the game
-Again, having never played EQ2, never visited any EQ2 related sites or forums, some how make the call that no body plays EQ2?

By your logic, the original Ultima series must suck because no one makes threads at AT about it, you've never played it, and don't care about the developer.

No, you see, he was talking significant digits, of which there are only 2.

No. I make snarky comments based on general knowledge. It's well known that WoW is far and away the most popular mumorpger, so for wiseass comparison purposes, I just consider all other mumorpgers to have zero subscription, because it's much easier to think of the internet in stereotypes.

If you're looking for a point to all this, it's to amuse myself at the expense of people who care what others think about the games they play.

-Since you've never played EQ2, you have no knowledge of the game, yet claim EQ2 players are guessing blindly when they talk about the game

No. You need to reread what I've said. You're blindly guessing about the gaming habits of, particularly, myself, but more generally anyone disparaging EQ2 in this thread. You talk about WoW fanboys, etc., of which I am not. I never mentioned WoW in any of my posts until the lols one, and only then to clarify that I'd never touched it. In fact, I never mentioned any other games. I just jokingly questioned EQ2's manhood, which apparently struck some nerves.

-Again, having never played EQ2, never visited any EQ2 related sites or forums, some how make the call that no body plays EQ2?

See bullet point #3.

People play Ultima games?

You are purposefully antagonizing other people, please desist or you posting privileges will be suspended-DAPUNISHER

Baseless? BASELESS? Excuse me Bat, but if anything, SOE has earned it's ranking as Satan Incarnate for what it did in EQ1 alone. Or possibly what it did in SWG. EQ2 isn't a bad game, hell I've got an active account right now, but if SOE ever stops getting flack it will be too soon.

However, I don't think every one of Bat's EQ2 update posts needs to turn into a WoW VS EQ2 thread. You should post the letter here though, since I can't read gaming websites.

I agree
Everyone KNOWS SOE sucks, but that doesn't automatically make EQ/EQ2 etc etc suck by default. ;)

Excitement!
Game Update 42 is looming, and I'm really quite excited about the amount of content that will be released. This is a large chunk of new stuff, and I know you'll find it just as engaging as I do. Here are some of the highlights:

1) We have the deities returning with renewed strength, and additional members? The Tribunal, Karana, and Bertoxxolous. You will find these encounters even more challenging than ever!

2) Also coming in this update are the new mannequins, which will allow you to show off your armor and weapons inside your house. If you're anxious to get one of these, be sure to touch base with your local crafting expert, who will be filling orders soon.

3) Searching for items that you care about on the broker will become much easier, as we have implemented the ability to search for items by the effect name on the item.

4) We've added a new Pet Options window to allow you to set your pet name, hide status and how they'll act around you.

5) While we can't control the entire internet yet, we can show you what may be happening between your computer and ours, with a new Connections Stats window to show you your ping, bytes per second, frames per second, and packet loss.

6) Oh, and someone mentioned epics. I think there are some epic quests in this update.

Now, it would be easy and fun for me to spend 5 or 10 minutes pontificating on the nature of epics, the game play, the steps required, and the rewards. Suffice it to say that I'll leave that task as an exercise for the reader. Our folks, from design, to art, to code, to quality assurance have worked quite diligently to make these quests as exciting and challenging as possible, and the rewards to match. We're trying to be quite secretive about how the actual quest line works so that people will feel a real sense of accomplishment when they complete them. Certainly, if you wait several weeks, one of our supporting web sites will end up with a walk through for those who want to wait, but we're so excited that we've even kept the data as secret as possible. In fact, if you ask a GM for assistance, there's a good chance they won't have access to the data necessary to help, as we have kept it all very close to the vest.

We were working towards being completed with the project by the end of January, and are on schedule. As I write this, we're running the last bits through our QA department, and taking their feedback on each section, and folding in their feedback. Look for the update to come in early February.

In the meantime, the normal business of the team rumbles on, from budgeting, to scheduling, to working on some upcoming live events, working on the next expansion, fixing bugs?we're busy. But then I could say that every month.

Good Hunting!

Thanks Bateluer.

I'm still playing EQ2. That makes 3 of us playing. :)

Actually I have seen a huge increase in players over the last month since Kunark was released. There's alot of players running around.

My GF plays WoW, and is rabit about it, she's tried to get me into it, but for some reason it's just not working out, nothing grabs me or interests me. I tried to get her to play EQ2, and while she does play it, doens't seem that interested.

I ask her why. She says EQ2 is too hard. In my opinion EQ2 is too easy as is... I guess some people want an "I win!" button.

I'm still waiting for them to fix the endless clicking of hot buttons. Any word about that in the future? I remember reading on a webpage they intended to fix/change that with the Kunark release.

I'm not sure if you ever played Galaxies or not, but SOE really, really fucked that game up badly when I played it. Goal of the game for many? Become a Jedi. However, holocrons that meant nothing but they led you to believe they meant everything, and gl training Jedi up to master, it was virtually impossible for a long, long time.

Oh, and then they changed most everything about the game in about 1 patch, or so I read, was out at that point.

So, many people who sunk some time in there are not baseless fanboi haters.

I have an EQ2 account I let expire last month, and am Eve account that expires this week. They are not bad games by any means at all, but to say their communities are mature is laughable. In fact, during my Eve playing I saw a worse community than WoW. MMo's cannot have mature communities. There's always going to be that niche of players that enjoy being little assholes.

Yeesh, its become almost too easy. :p
When EQ2 first came out, it took me almost two weeks just to hit 20. Some of my coworkers played 8 hours a day for over a month to get to 50. These days, you can solo to 20 in a single day easily.

EQ2 still has 'lulls' where leveling can be a pain in the butt though.
