I don't think so. Smoking just... tastes nasty! Let's say beer was banned. People would try and say, "wow - I love it!" and would keep drinking. With smoking, they would only thank the government for leading them in the right direction.
Hrmm... lets see. Smoking is illegal for people under age 18 but guess what, a lot of people who are under 18 still smoke! I bet if you legalized it, less would smoke.

You argument is way off on smoking... do you even remember reading about prohibition? It wouldn't work. Hell, look at all of the people who smoke marijuana. I think I might know more people that smoke marijuana than smoke ciggarettes, but marijuana is illegal...

What about McDonald's then? It is agruably as unhealthy as smoking if not more when not used in moderation, and has no redeemable value. Should it be illegal too? At what point do we draw the line where we need the government to protect us from ourselves? That's not freedom.

Food is necessary for survival. Smoking is not. No redeemable value? It may not be very healthy, but it is food.

MCDONALD's is NOT necessary for survival. Care to split this hair a third time?

I think smoking should be made illegal.
Are there any arguments other than "I want to be the one deciding how to kill myself?"

Before you flame me, think:

1. Smoking is terrible for your health, and killed millions of people.
2. People smoke mostly because they "started and can't quit".
3. Chances are, they never would've started smoking if it were illegal.
4. Unlike drugs which may make you "high" and "feel good", smoking usually does not.
5. It is bad not only to you but also those around you, etc.
6. Pregnant women smoke and that results in birth defects.
7. Making smoking illegal is likely to prevent your kids from smoking, too. Your Mom tried to stop you, but she couldn't.
8. There is no special case where smoking is good for you. It's bad, period. So why not ban it?!

Would this be a case of the government "limiting our freedoms"? Yes, but so what?. Other laws that limit our freedoms make killing, raping, stealing, setting someone's car on fire, among other things, illegal as well. It's the job of every parent to prevent their kids from smoking, but many fail. Maybe the law can help. Some people need more encouragement than others 😉

If we ban it now, in 65-70 years no one will even remember this nasty habbit!

And a question to those who smoke: do you think you'd be better off never having started smoking in the first place? Don't you regret it? Does it still "seem cool"? I bet not. And it costs you a pretty penny.

I agree for the most part. I don't think it should be outright illegal. BUT those who smoke should have to give up any and all rights to any health care when they get older, AND/OR the tax on Cigs should be at least $5 a pack to try and make SOME os the money spent on THEIR health care and trash pick up.

Well, you know what, maybe McDonalds should be illegal. Unfortunately, there is no healthy cheap alternative. If there was a delicious cheap vegiburger that tasted just like the McDonalds unprocessed burgers, I would be all over it. And McDonalds is not so bad in moderation. I eat their fries once a month or so. They taste good and aren't nearly as bad as smoking once a month.

But we know what you're saying, many things that are bad for you are legal.

I'm not so sure I believe that one helping of McD's fries is not as bad as one cigarette....

But we know what you're saying, many things that are bad for you are legal.

As long as you get the point 🙂

And eating it as primary sustenance will kill you faster than smoking.

All these people who say smokers don't enjoy it obviously havn't ever had a cigarette (at least that they didn't cough up).

The ones who don't like it are probably the ones doing 1 pack+ a day too. At that point it loses any value it has. Yes, in moderation it can be relaxing and enjoyable, sorry to dissapoint.

How many fatties do you know that don't eat 3k+ calories a day? You call that necessary for survival? Yea I know bigger guys (like those that actually workout) need that many, but not the sedentary Donutmen.
