My T41 came this morning. Very happy with the quick delivery. I'll post my impressions of it vs the Dell D500 I just returned.

I would be very interested in your comparison.

same here. argh! i wish this was an sxga+ screen.

I wish this were SXGA+ and $200 cheaper then I'd jump on it.

I'm holding out for a Compaq X1000 for $799 after MIR.

I broke down and bought one but with the SXGA screen and 1.6GHZ. $1934 after tax and shipping. Needed the SXGA screen.

An excellent business notebook.

The Apple Aluminum PowerBook is a sexier performance machine.

You're around $2000 for the T41 if you want a Radeon 9000 GPU, whereas the PB has Radeon 9600.

Damn, I bought a T40, THROUGH MY FRIGGIN SCHOOL (supposed to be cheap and what not), for almost 2,000 in August. This deal beats the crap outta mine (yeah it came with some extra stuff, but not that much)...I'd be all over this if I didn't already have mine...

Sounds good....I was trying to price it with SXGA, 1.6 Pentium M, but could not get it that low. Do you have a link?

Thanks.

The case (Mexico) and the notebook (China) are shipped from different places. The CSR said I would get my case no latter then the 12/22

What do you guys think of the X31...

I have a 15 incher Inspiron 5000e right now.. and sick of the big hulk. Looking for something small but cant decide between the T41 (which looks really small).. and the X31..

I carry my laptop around campus a lot and travel with it too.. small is key.. but is the T41 small enough is the main question.

The X31 with media base sounds like a good deal for $1500 pre-tax + free shipping.

What do you guys think?

I can live with anything that's sub 5lbs, but that's just my personal preference. I go to a school with wireless access all over the damn place, so the centrino is a useful tool. The X31 seemed a good buy, but I got the t41 instead because the x31 was too small for my preference (not even space for a cd drive, need to plug it into another unit). while the x31 is ultra-mobility, i'll take an extra pound or so and go with the t41. i kind of wish the lcd was better than xga 1024x768, and there wasn't one dead pixel off to the left middle, but it's still an excellent laptop. the active hard drive protection is cool, too.

They used make these in Japan, does anyone know when they switched? My X31 is from China too, I got it last week.

Can you still get the free port replicator with the employee purchase? On the website I think they changed the offer to free PDA. I would rather have the port replicator.

Yes you can add another stick of ram. I just picked up a 512MB stick from Newegg.com for $89 shipped. I just put it in an hour ago and works fine with the 256mb ram for a total of 768MB.

I am a couple of clicks away from ordering this deal. T41 looks awesome, and since I won't be using it for games (although it would be nice if it could handle NWN 🙂 ) it seems perfect. Anything come to light in the past few days or is this deal still as hot as it seems? Also, has anyone tried the linux wireless drivers linked earlier in the article? I hope to make this an XP Pro/SuSE 9 dual boot as soon as I get it.

Does the OEM reinstall come on a CD or on a partition as IBM has been pushing lately?

Wowie! I wish I had $1,400 right now. 🙁 It's as much as a refurb Dell laptop without all the uber graphics and whatnot!

Bump for a good deal! At least it's not a pricing error like most of Dells. 🙂

The instll comes on a partition which eats almost 4 GB from your 30 GB drive. Kinda sucks that they dont provide any CD's
