Anyone PM this deal to CompUSA? I think they carry these devices.. just wondering in case my B&M is sold-out. Don't feel like ordering online. Btw, does anyone know what chipset it uses, and if you can install a > 128GiB HD into it?

Thanks OP, just got mine at the Lansing, MI O-Max. Funny thing about it was there were photocopied sale flyers at the front of the store advertising that this very drive was on clearance for $119.00 and sure enough, the one I found had a $119 clearance sticker on it. Just out of curiousity, I had the girl scan it, and it rang up at $49.99! BTW, the website gave me the "not available in your area" BS message too, so it pays to check. I was afraid to call to check in advance in case the guy who answered snagged it for themselves!

Thanks OP,

just ordered online with a 3/16 delivery date.

I Don't mind waiting a few days. At least I don't have to wait on a rebate!

Gotta love it when the managers don't want to sell product!

Edit: I have to apologize to any OM managers that might be reading this thread, I suddenly realized, that it could be possible that they pulled the items to fulfill other non walk-in orders. (Though you do have to wonder if perhaps the manager just wanted to ebay the rest of the units themself.)

Considering brand new retail drives of this type sell for ~$120, yes, it's a freakin good deal.

"20508675 Item is not available for delivery in your area"

Oh well, the closest OM in my area is over 30 miles long. Good deal though.

I was surpirsed to learn that these drives comes with a 1 year warranty from date of manufacture, not the date of purchase.....giving you a 30 day warranty in most cases.

WTF....

Whaaat? I thought that as long as you had your retail purchase reciept, since these are retail-kit items, that the mfg would warranty for one year from date of purchase. Has WD gone off the deep end too (like Seagate)?

Edit: OM advertises the drive as "1 Year Warranty (Warranty Information)", so if that's not true, they should be forced to stand behind it. Perhaps take WD's warranty-status web-page printout, along with the drive, to OM, and demand that OM make good on the store-advertised warranty, by giving you a *free* OM extended warranty for a year?

I bought 3, and have already voided the warranty on one (installed the 80 in a desktop and stuck a 10 gig in the enclosure).

Looks like the other 2 will go back for refund tommorow.

I do have to say the aborted 80 gig is quiet, and the enclosure seems to work well, so for 50 I roll the dice.
