Alpine CDA-7995
CD/MP3 Receiver with Ai-NET CD Changer Controls, 4v Pre-Amp outputs, and XM radio (originally $499.99 now $299.99)
(The original post was mad by GoPack1 at fatwallet)

This is a hot item they have right now, the Alpine CDA-7995 head unit for $299. Apply $20 MC coupon and you can have this for $279 shipped (these go for about $330 + $20 shipping on eBay). If you are a new customer, you can probably get another $20 off by using a referral code which you can get from any current Crutchfield customer. There is also free shipping on this specific item.

Some cool things about Crutchfield are that they give you all the stuff that you will need to install your car stereo for free. Plus, if you need to return anything, they pay for the shipping. They also have phone installation help 16 hours a day 7 days a week.

A review of the Alpine 7995

You put the referral code in on the ordering page where you type in your credit card info. Crutchfield won't show the discount until they send an e-mail telling you they got your order.

This unit doesn't come with an internal amp.
There are lots of excellent prices on amps from less known car audio websites, so shop around.

I already got my head unit in the male and it is allot cooler than it looks in the picture at crutcthfield.com

I got a kicker 02KX800.4 amp from soundomain.com that will be delivered tomorrow

I price matched the 02KX800.4 for $499 at soundomain.com (Soundomain is dealer certified retailer for kicker) to the amp for $260 on a website that was not dealer certified and soundomain.com accepted the price match. Shipping was included!

I did not try this but here is a post for a $10 credit for Crutchfield. You sign up for the Visa Student Scoop email and receive a $10 dollar off, no minimum purchase coupon for Crutchfield.com
(Try Spamgourmet if you don?t really want the email newspaper. If you don?t know what Spamgourmet is it?s a great free service so check it out www.spamgourmet.com
Anandtech post for $10 dollar credit

The master card coupon may work if you don't use a MasterCard, if you have one don't risk it, but if you don't have one you might as well try ordering without it and tell us if it works.

I herd the coupon will still work if you don?t use a Mastercard, but I think Crutchfield might take away the coupon in a confirmation email if they see you didn?t use a Mastercard.

Specs available at crutchfield.com
Alpine 7995 Specs

It is advertised as a 4 volt unit. The front & rear pre-outs do make the 4 volts rms as advertised @ around volume 32. However, the sub pre-out will only be putting out 1.7volts. The sub-out will reach close to 4 volts at 34 volume. All thou this is common to all newer alpine units.

NO WMA (not a big problem because MP3 is the standard)

The size of the MP3 depends on the MP3 codec. A good MP3 with LAME 3.92 or higher codec is better than WMA 8 or lower and almost as good as WMA9. When WMA is said to be half the size of a MP3, it is just marketing. (Taken from AlexRuiz?s post at Fatwallet)

I am definitely in favor of Alpine head units, and the CDA9815 that I just put in my car is the best head unit I have ever owned. While I can't speak much for the SQ of this unit, the feature set is excellent for this price and if you can live without WMA (I could not) this is a true steal.

This HU is overkill for most people. I have it, and it works great but again it is a DEAD HEAD. No internal amplification, so your gonna have to buy an amplifier for your speakers. What's good is crutchfield gives u everything you need to install the HU. I purchased this HU from them and it works great. I suggest you get a US acoustics 4 channel amp, mate them up with 4 speakers of your choice and your good to go.

It's $25 off for "2" sets of speakers with rec., not $25 off each set of speakers. I just received my order from them and only got $25 off. Read their ad on the web page.
I did get the $25 off using Mastercard also.🙂

how does it come down to $229? w/ the speaker purchase right?

300-20-20 =260 - 25(speaker purchase). Whats the cheapest w/o speaker purchase? around $250?

Thanks for the tip! I bet many people wouldn't have noticed that w/o you pointing that out. Me included...

I have a $20 off new customer code that is good for unlimited uses unlike the others which are only good for 2 uses a month. PM me for it since referals should not be posted here. Crutchfield is an excellent retailer once you can find a good price.

i find it hard to believe crutchfield and 'hot deal' can be in the same sentence. anyone have any comparison prices?

ill really look into this model cuz here is a recent post i made

time to replace the jvc kd-sh99 the thieves messed up. ive been looking and playing with all sorts of models ranging from 150-600 and i just cant find one i like. these are my basic criteria:

1. aesthetics not important. i want good functionality/navigation.
preamps/power/fancy colors/eq/wma i dont care about either.

2. random across disc as well as across folder

3. skip +/- 10 (jvc's have this) and/or direct track access (not just 1-12 btw)

4. no long ass delays between mp3 tracks like the early pioneers.

5. more than 8 character display.

6. prefer scan buttons on the LEFT next to volume.

7. prefer more than 1 year warranty.

the closest ive found are the jvc models. i guess im biased but im liking their high resolution displays with plenty of room for text and functions as well as satisfying most of my criteria. kinda pricey at 400+ tho. ideally i want to spend 2-300..

oh btw, how do the alpines read cdr's now? i used to find that alpines were very sensitive to cheapo cdrs (even burned on a plextor) and most cdrw's. i found my sh99 was the best at reading, however its having trouble with teh new 16x-24x memorex cdrw's. i had a new 7864 i believe, this was two years ago tho.

one more thing, the other models (CDA-9807) have the directory/file search button next to the volume. how does the 7995 accmplish this? oh nm, its as mode button on preset 3..
the CDA-9807 also seems newer with wma, speaker outs, and is cheaper with a 280$ msrp (vs 500msrp). going on ebay for 220 with more auctions vs 290. any thoughts?

Stereo - Alpine CDA-7995 | 2 10" RF HE2 in Sealed Box | 400 watt RMS RF amp | JBL 400 RMS 4 channel amp| Polk MOMO 6.5" and Tweeters | Eclipse SP-8992 6"x9"

my stereo setup... this is a great hu to build around... i bought it specifically because it was a preamp unit. this way i got better sound and less distortion. A+++++ on this hu..

This Alpine model accesses the MP3's fast. It also changes songs fast

Song search WHILE PLAYING another song.

Hit the "file search" button, then scroll with the volume button for the song of your choice. It continues to play the original song while scrolling for the other one! WOW! Only downside is it always starts from the root when you file search. I may figure out a better way, but it's still neat!

Random in folder/Random across disc. This unit's a 2nd gen, and Alpine wants us to be happy. Easily toggled on and off.

Let's see. I buy the cheapest CDR media, and it read everything. Load time was about 4-5 seconds per when you insert a disc. Yep, it's that quick! It will read CD Audio And mp3 discs that are 700 MB.

Anyone who has the Apply $20 MC code or new customer code please p-m, my f-150 could use this 😛 although I just paid a buttload to fix it.

is there any good begining car audio install guides? (universal) i plan on getting into car audio as soon as i buy a car.

Tempting, the specs look nice, and I trust alpine to make a quality product.

Leary about hooking everything up though. The amp usually goes in the trunk? How hard is it to install, or how much do places charge to install?

do you guys see an advantage to having the file search/up/down buttons separated and next to the volume like the 98xx series? im very set on the 9811 for 239 (local ebayer) but i prefer the silver face of the 7995.

everything else seems similar except for the wma and speaker out the 9811 has which i dont care about. oh and the install kit from crutchfield but i dont need that either.

Let me stress this again. The 7995 has absolutely no internal amplification. If your lookin for a simple car audio system do not get this head unit. If you are really into car audio and high fidelity sound and already have amplifiers for your speakers than by all means this is a great HU. Nothing I can pick at except less than stellar radio reception. But, that doesn't matter to me since I have XM radio.
