from what I understand, SDHC isnt compatible w/ SD devices unless there is a particular firmware flash available for that device. is this correct?

That's correct, Corporate Thug, although most newer devices take SDHC now. These 16GB cards are a god-send for hi-def camcorders and the like.

Great deal. Worth noting that it outlasts the stock batteries on those camcorders by at least a factor of 2.

What kind of real world performance are people seeing with these devices? I know a class 6 device has to be rated r/w at >=6MB/s but I can't imagine copying 16GB at that speed, I think most of them are underrated from what I've heard.

SoulAssassin: I just dropped 10GB of music onto my new card in 25Min. That's 6.86MB/sec. 2986 files.

All this is base 10 (ie: 1MB = 1,000,000 bytes)

I have an 8gb Patriot and in a Sandisk card reader, I get 11mb/sec IIRC. I got 7 with the reader in my Dell monitor. I'll test again when I get home to make sure

Missed the Fry's deal for the same card (larger rebate). If you're looking for a smaller card you can get a 2 or 4 GB microSD at Kingston for $7 and $18, respectively. See the FW thread for links.

Which is why you always need two batteries.
