Wow, that's a pretty good deal. I picked up an ABS 1050W silver PSU some time ago at Newegg for $130 too. FS, no rebate. Guess they were closing them out. It was a re-labeled Enermax, which I figure is decent.

I either need a backup or to replace one I have now to put back into backup after losing one still, but that seems like a lot of power.

Damn it... I was thinking about doing SLI and looking at the seasonic PSUs. But then I see this and for the price - just can't beat it! Ordered one, thanks OP!

So what's the deal between these gold, silver, and bronze ratings.

Those ratings indicate efficiency as tested by 80plus. You can read about it in the link below, but currently there are 5 levels of efficiency labeling...80plus, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and each requires a higher level of efficiency from a power supply than the level below it, with simple 80plus cert. being the lowest and Platinum being the highest, or most efficient.

One thing to remember is that the 80plus testing is done on room air, not in a hot box environment and more than a few power supplies have been shown to struggle to meet their rated efficiency levels in a heated environment.

Then there's the issue that some unscrupulous power supply manufacturers will send in a ginned up version of a particular power supply for evaluation, but the retail versions never meet the results of testing on the "special" one.

damn, my antec 850 is getting long in the tooth...

Do you have the same PSU as me? I'm thinking about getting a new case and I'm not even sure it'll fit in anything other than an Antec P18x case... This PSU might be a good option. But it's probably total overkill as I'm not really planning on doing CF/SLI.
