UNCLEBUD: yes, you have to load the software, see immortalis's links just above. Once you have the software installed, the light on the base unit will change from amber to green. The software also has all of the drivers for the base unit. Once you have it operational with the computer on, when the computer is turned off it reverts back to a standard cordless phone system.

If anyone's interested, I also have an unopened base unit that I'll let go for the same price as rickforrest. Just PM me.

Yea compusa has the handsets here for $79. Might just go buy them there instead of the mess of shipping and money orders just to save a few $$.

Might go $35 or $40 for the handsets but $50 is getting a little too close to retail. The base is well worth the price the people are asking though. Its a great phone.

50 is close to 79+tax? When you can pay via PayPal and have it
in 2-3 days?

I would think most anandtechers would want to save 30 plus dollars.

Yes, but if exchange is an option for you AND you can wait 3 days ...

then if it's DOA you can still exchange it.

p.s. I'm not interested in trades, thanks.

To be perfectly honest I think $50 is too much profit. I would be perfectly happy to pay $40 for one but I thing $50 is getting too high. And yes I would pay the $80 just on principal :). Others may not agree but its just a personal thing. Sorry...no offense. Your prices are great compared to Ebay though.

P.S. I had a member here sell me a base unit at his cost. He never even added $$ for his time and trouble. Thats a good "hot deal" member.

<< Anyone having any problem getting Caller ID to Work? >>

I am having trouble with Caller-ID too. I subscribe to Verizon Caller-ID service but nothing is showing up on the phone handset when I call myself. When I have my old cordless/callerID box/answering machine plugged in I see "New Jersey, 201-555-1212" displayed on the callerID box. I just got the phone tonight and didn't get a chance to play with it much so I may not have enabled an option to allow caller ID on the handset.

I also have Verizon Caller-ID service. I am not sure there is anything that need to be set according to the manual ... It should just work. My next plan of attack is to try some line filters. I have already disconnected all other handsets and had the line tested.

I called all over KY, and only found one in Owensboro. I called the Owensboro store and they said I could buy it but I would have to pay for the shipping here. I know there is one or two still in the TN stores. I had a friend call around middle TN. He said there were about 3 systems and he picked one up and 2 handsets from just one store. I would say give some OD in another state u live in a call and see if they have it and tell them u will pay for shipping. They are a UPS outlet.

I tried to pm with a local OD across the street, but they refused to, said it was a closeout item there.
I HATE compusa.

the compusa guy was all for it as long as i could prove to him that it was indeed $29.22 but OD in my area didnt carry any more so there was no price to match it to. with the help of antisocial-virge (youre awesome man!) i got a receipt as evidence and will try again. just depends on who you talk to i guess.
