"The new chip (P4 3.0 Ghz) is available for $637 in quantities of 1,000, and Intel has also taken the usual step of reducing the prices on its other chips. Its 2.8 GHz is reportedly now selling in the low $400 range, down from the low $500 range.

"The [P4 3.06 GHz] price will come down fairly quickly especially if they want to push it into the corporate mainstream market," said Krishna Shankar, analyst with JMP Securities.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD: news, chart, profile), Intel's main competitor for computer chips, is expected to begin shipping its Athlon 2700+ and 2800+ chips for desktops in the near future, possibly this month. AMD's highly anticipated new product line called Hammer, though, won't be out until early next year. "

Some new tech incorporated in the chip as well to run multiple apps at once better.

Will update once trading begins and new chips pop up on retailers, nothing on Pricewatch yet.

A new chip at 3.0 Gigs is a smoker.

A 20% price drop by Intel is a smoker.

The resulting price drops in high end PCs will be smokers.

What the f*ck are yuo smoking?

Yea it is called Hyperthreading.

637 for a CPU is Not a hot deal sorry to say, hell 390 for a 2.8 is not a hot deal. Get a 2.26 with the 533 FSB for $173 and OC and I bet you can get pretty close to 3 gigs

Better luck next time Buddy lee.

Hi BuddYLee!
Welcome to anandtech forums!
Please take the time to read the forum rules before posting again.
This is very hot but there is no deal here. Morph is right.
Anyone can read Anandtech News and other website news postings.

If you happen to find a great deal on some hardware, you have found the right place to post it.
;)

Particularly when sold in quantities of 1000.

Although I do like that Intel price pressures keep forcing AMD to keep improve their chips and keep their prices down. Forget Duron, sub-$100 XP 1900 is where it's at.
