I was wondering that myself. Is it the drugs? Or the illegal activity. If it's just illegal part, go to someplace where it's legal, and enjoy. Then come home and realize the BS we put up with.
I no longer smoke. But I know that I am MUCH BETTER person for having smoked when I was in college. I had such amazing times with my friends. We listened to music. We engineered pipes. We enjoyed TV and movies. We ate AMAZING meals. (well made and horrible junk food feasts) These are some of the best memories of college and we're amazing bonding moments. Getting high with a new friend was always an event.
All of this was done peacefully. I don't think I have any negative MJ stories. (Other than the weight gain from overeating)
I still LOVE to drink. Luckily *I* am a mellow drunk. But I have PLENTY of bad drinking stories to tell. Booze can be EVIL. Anybody who's smoked will tell you that there isn't much negative to say about casual smoking, beside skirting the legal issues involved.
That aside, weed CAN be physically and psychologically addictive. But that's only people who become *HARD*CORE everyday/everyhour smokers. When they're smoking, they're fine. When they aren't, they go through mild/serious withdrawal symptoms. But that's just like any other substance abuse. A 5 pot a coffee drinker is substance abuser who is going to have some awful withdrawals.
The only reason I says this, is because the OP mentioned he was a 1st time smoker. Everyone's going to say it's harmless or it's the devil. Well, like anything, it's ALMOST harmless in moderation. If you enjoy in the evenings on the weekend, power to you! Enjoy your harmless, well earned relaxation.
If you find you like to wake and bake before work, have a hit at lunch, and need a few bong hits before bed, you've already way past the "enjoying" or "relaxing" part.
We seriously need to decriminalize. The War on Drugs is bogus as far as weed is concerned. The money generated from sales of weed, and the backyard gardens and window boxes is desperately needed NOW, and it would hardly create any more substance abusers than we have now. Availability is not the problem.
For any doubters, Ronald Regan's argument against weed was "If my pilot was high, I would be able to tell. If he was drunk, I could." That argument doesn't make any sense as availability isn't the problem.
The real foes of common sense drug policy are the corrupt politicians getting dirty money from the law enforcement side and the corrections side. The other major opponent is the prescription drug companies. They definitely don't want competition from a natural, organic, near harmless, home-grown, nearly free, easily grown at home drug that is proven effective for a million uses.
Again, I don't smoke anymore. I used to flip flop on preferring drinking over smoking. I've always been a lightweight on the smoking front. A few puffs of the crappiest ditchweed, and I was staring at the walls for hours. So, even if it was legalized, I still would RARELY smoke. However, to steal a bit from Bill Hicks, if I was at a ball game, and the guys behind me were f'ed up on something, I'd MUCH rather it be weed.
Watch ALL of these. Bill can say it better than I can...
