Smoked Mobo, cpu also?

I just finished looking over my sister in laws computer and found that like 4 caps around the cpu are leaking. When I opened this thing up it looked like you could start a garden in the cpu heatsink. Anyhow I figure the board it toast. I just wonder if the cpu is toast. I am afraid to stick it in one of my boards and take a chance of the same fate as the one it is in now. I want to know if you think it is safe to test it in my working board
 
You didn't tell us which CPU she has in there. If it's an AMD K6, then they have been known to fail in a mode that will take out any board you plug it into if the on-board voltage regulators aren't of high quality (can protect themselves).

It is a K7 slot a 850Mhz. I didn't really think that would make much difference. That is why I skipped putting it in.3
