when someone throws a smoke grenade, after a little smoke comes out, my screen start to "lag". by this I mean that if I shoot, i hear the shot, the person dies, but I dont see it until about 1/2-1 second later. the framerate stays high, just behind. any ideas?

You shouldn't be having that problem with a GTS. Not at all.

Have you tried futzing with the "rate" command to change your internet connection?

And changing the smoke complexity in the options?

rate doesn't seem to do anything (as in, no chagne between 1 and 1000000)... this happens even when i host a lan game with nobody in it. if it matters, I'm on a 10mbit lan with multiple T3's worth of bandwidth. 🙂

Where are the smoke complexity options? I looked at all the video options I could find. "Draw faster software sprites" seems to have no effect.

I'm using D3d, since opengl is kinda unstable in counterstrike

Unstable? OGL rocks. I had a similar setup as you and I played at 1024x768, 4x fsaa, perfectly smooth even with smoke spammers.

Give it a try and see if it clears up, though I don't think it should be happening, regardless. 🙁
