Smoke free bar in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill ?

A friend said he heard of a bar in Raleigh that posted no smoking. He couldn't remember the name of the club. I live in Durham, but haven't heard of anything like it.

I have some friends coming in this weekend and that would be a great place for them to hang out (one of them has asthma).

Anybody know if this is true?
thanks

There trying a pass a law down here in Florida to make all bars and resturants smoke free (I think california has a similar law).

Cali does and it's great. I love being able to go out, come home and not smell like an ash tray.

I think Iowa City(home of the University of Iowa) is trying to pass a similar code.

THANK GOODNESS!

Why do you people feel that such a thing should be legislated? Don't you think that whether or not a private establishment allows smoking or not should be the decision of its owner(s) or management?
If there is a market for a smoke-free bar, don't you think that people would open one?
Wait, there is a market for them, and people have opened them. There are tons of them here in Portland.

Exactly. That a PRIVATE business cannot choose for itself whether or not to allow smoking is oppression, no matter how you stack it.

Bump for a fellow Durhamite. Can't wait for Southpointe Mall to open, only two minutes away from me!

I don't know if these are smoke free, but this site at Citysearch has a listing of local bars.

LoL... A smoke free bar in the heart of tobaccoland? 🙂 I lived in High Point (Furniture Market rocked!!!) for a year or so...

Seriously, I agree with this:

You should be able to find one. Most of us Americans are pretty sick of smoking. (As DurocShark lights up a Camel Turkish Gold...Muhahahah)

Just don't legislate it. Let public opinion and the individual business owners decide. We in CA have been screwed for years with the ban on smoking in ANY indoor public place. 🙁

I hope it passes

I hope it doesn't.

A smoke free bar is like a sex free whore house.

I was thinking the same thing.

As for smoke free bars...

You could try the organic juice bar at your local health food store.

I thought the same thing before it passed in LA.. that it was ridiculous etc.... But I love it. You don't have to wash everything right away b/c you smell like an ashtray. It would be pretty damn annoying if someone had a smoke in your face and kept blowing it towards you.. Every bar always has designated smoking spots, plus that's a great place to find a chick who smokes, and an easy way to start talking to them 🙂

I haven't found many and i have frequented lots of clubs in Raleigh and Chapel Hill...Not so much in Durham.

Bump for the Southpointe Mall opening! Only about 15 minutes from me!

2 minutes away here too..

I'm looking for a smoke-free place to play pool at near here. I don't have a problem with cigarette smoke, smoked for 12 years, but my wife has very sensative sinuses.

I'd like to see those politicians get reelected that pass a no-smoking in public bars/restaurants in tobacco-land NC.

They might be "down" but I used to work for them, and damn, they have tons$$$$ of money. Political $.

Besides that, they shouldn't pass the law like the above people said. If I was an owner, I'd want to choose for myself, and be able totell anyone that told me what to do to shove it (in regard to allowing/not allowing smoking).
