Smoke Detectors

Yeah they recently changed the CO requirement laws now, before they were optional.

For fire detectors it's good to have ionisation and photocell from what I heard.

Also I really think there needs to be a more standardized sound for these devices. CO detectors basically sound the same as a smoke detector. It's very hard to tell which one is going off and both situations need to be treated differently.

I think the idea is that the response to either going off is supposed to be the same, get out.

I read that CO detectors go off as the CO accumulated over a long period of time.
By the time it goes off, you have already had a leak for a while.
The levels are higher than safe, but you don't need to rush out of the house.
You need to get your gas consuming devices checked, but it's not the same urgency of a smoke detector.

We need to do this as well. House will be 15 years old this spring. We have a smoke alarm in every room so we probably need about 10-12. I've been looking at the ones with the 10 year battery we also need hard wired. Hopefully we can use the existing harness otherwise it's going to be a real pain. We have two CO detectors, one near the gas furnace and water heater and one near the garage (in case we get old and leave the cars running all night)
