The smoke detectors I bought from walmart specify that it needs a certain Duracell 9 volt battery. The first time they started chirping for new batteries I tried cheap alkalines from walmart and they kept chirping. I then tried Duracell batteries and they worked great. How they know the difference is beyond me.

Maybe they want a rather specific voltage. I've seen some batteries give off either too high or too low a voltage when new. So maybe it's actually too high but treating it the same as low. I've seen some 9 volt batteries give off like 11 volts new.

Strange, I had one start doing the same thing recently. However, it's much older (at least 10 years old). Took 3 batteries before it finally stopped the damn chirping.

I just double checked the required battery list. Bought another pack of different 9v batteries on the list and they still didn't work. Bleh.

I'll just buy a new one. It is just weird that it is doing this after replacing the battery.
