Smog or Fog in Dallas, Texas?

I was in Dallas, Texas last week. After San Diego, it is definitely the best city I have seen in the South so far.

I have one question though. The weather was quite awful throughout our stay, and there was clearly some fog on some days. But on other less cloudy days, there was still a yellow haze around town, limiting visibility to about a half mile or so. Was it smog? I don't see any reason why there should be smog in Dallas, because there are no mountains there, like there are in Los Angeles to hold in the auto-exhaust. Chicago and Detroit are also flat like Dallas, and both are smog free.

Note: I am not "messing with Texas". Just asking a friendly question 😉

Cheers.

Dallas has a big smog problem, mostly because people in TX want to drive their cars and shun public transportation. Also, TX is in the bottom five in spending on its public transportation. Further, I believe Houston was the worst or one of the worst cities in the south for smog problems. People don't carpool in TX either, and I don't know why 🙁

That'd be smog. I used to live in Arlington, and on occasion would drive into Dallas. I could smell it before I even saw it.

Smog...

With this many people living in the DFW area, its going to be a problem. Espically when Texans have this complex that bigger is better and they buy their oversized trucks and SUVS. :\

I don't know about smog, but when I drove through Dallas, I kept on smelling cow manure. Only at night though. I didn't quite understand why. All over Dallas at night, all I smelled was manure. I didn't smell it at all during the day.

I depends greatly on the day, most days theres not much smog, some days its really really bad(15-20 days a year).

i grew up in the dallas area... there is a lot of pollution created in and around Dallas. MOST days tho, it gets blown away by the wind so a lot of people don't notice it until it there is no wind for a day or too.

I've never really noticed it much. The weather does give the city different smells, though. Today it was muggy as hell, and it smelled nasty in some parts of town. When the humidity isn't so high, it is actually pretty pleasant.
