smog check

My check engine light is on and I need to get a smog check done.

I found out that the check engine light is on because of the O2 sensor circuit malfunction.

I can clear this reading for about a day or so by visiting Autozone.

If I clear the error and get the smog test done before the check engine light comes on again, will I pass the smog test or still fail because of the O2 sensor circuit malfunction?

If the light came on, then something is definitely not
working as it should. You can turn the SES light off
and if you go right to inspection, it MAY sneak past the
emissions test. Depends on how close it is to being in
the Fail Range for your state. If it fails that test, then
you need an O2 sensor changed. It would be better to
do that anyway as they are about $80 or so depending
on the car. And if it is not working properly, the motor
will not run properly. Usually, it runs rich & gas MPG goes down.

Buy a universal fit O2 sensor from online or a fitted/connector sensor for more, and replace it yourself. CEL will fail smog test on visual for sure.

Emissions testing state FTL!

Sigh. I will eventually be moving to a state that requires testing, but I have a while to get my car up to speed. I know that they have it for good reason, but man, what a hassle.
