I have noticed that there are different types of Smith Machines. On the first type I've seen, the barbell moves vertically at a 90-degree angle to the floor. I have also seen Smith Machines where the barbell moves at an angle about 80-90 degrees with the floor. I have used the former for bench press in the past. Is the latter type with the angled movement also suitable for bench press?

According to this, Angled is better for bench press:

The angled Smith machine is becoming the standard because it better simulates the natural bar path of pressing movements like the chest press.

I'm not a fan of smith machines in general for standard lifts (ignoring hack squats and such) but there's no reason why either would be a problem, and as guidryp mentioned, the angled plane is probably better for bench press where the bar starts closer to eye level and should be coming down closer to the nipple line.

Using a straight up and down machine for bench locks you into starting lower on the body and not ideal for our body mechanics.
