Here's what gets me -

"Smith" drew only 8.4 million viewers."

20/20 only had 13 million! E.R. only had 14!

Heros only had 13.5 Rating

The first problem is that Smith was up against Law & Order (#13) and Boston Legal. How do they really expect a show to show it's potential in 3 shows.

If you look, Dancing with the Stars and Survivor are the only "reality" TV shows on that list. The majority are plot driven.

Studio 60 delivered a 6.0 rating. That's much lower.

Deal or No Deal pulled an 8.0

All said, Smith isn't the bomb they are making it out to be. I think the production cost were probably the biggest problem.

Tried one episode of Smith, hated it, it's gone. Good
Tried one episode of Kidnapped, hated it, it's gone. Good.
Tried 2 episodes of Justice, neutral on #1, hated #2. It's in trouble already and probably doomed. Good.
Tried 3 episodes of Vanished, wanted to like it, couldn't get into it, it's in trouble already and unlikely to last the season. No big loss.
Tried Jericho, it hooked me. It's doing well and will likely survive. Good.
Tried Heroes. Caught my interest enough to keep watching. Is doing great and was picked up for the whole season. Good.
Tried Studio 60. Loved it. Getting hammered in the ratings. They won't write it off so easily, so they'll do something to give it a chance. It's kind of smart and too "inside" for a big audience. Too expensive to live as a cult hit, so it's probably in deep trouble. Bad. That's my favorite of the new shows.
