There's a small thread on it, but looks to be beta release.

In any case, I'm hooked on the game. there's something about the 3rd person perspective that makes it more user-friendly than the top-down view of LOL. I'm loving the game.

the also have a special for $29.99 to purchase all and future Gods. I want to do it to support them, but I like having to earn the Gods. I don't care about skins and whatnot, so I have no use for the gems and points otherwise.

Looks really interesting.

It reminds me of Counter Strike WC3 servers or Hero servers if anyone remembers those. Wc3 servers meant you could get heal (paladin for humans), lifeleach (undead), etc.
Hero servers allowed you to get cool things like Spiderman Powers.

Essentially though this has taken and evolved on that idea using the MOBA strategy.

I think this could be real interesting in that you can't really see 360 degrees around you. It makes positioning and communication THAT MUCH more important than in Dota/LoL.

I obviously haven't played but it seems like the game would have a higher threshold of skill to play competitive.

That said, CPA already mentioned you have to purchase "Gods". I HATED that about League of Legends and I prefer the DOTA format. Even though both Dota/LeagueofLegends generally both have new heros/champions as overpowered, at least in DOTA it's simply because the hero hasn't yet interacted with others enough to know how OP it is. In League of Legends, it's relatively obvious that new heros are overpowered so that people will spend money to purchase them. Just look how long people went TriStack items on Vladmir when he came out and yet he wasn't fixed for a WHILE. Mejais, Occult, Leviathan was a joke on him that was EASILY able to still lead to wins.

Games like this generally have huge balance issues towards new chars and I really dislike that aspect of "farming" to play new heros. My brother has been a long time League Player and I've seen him start a lot of trends that later end up on the Pro scene and the biggest reason they weren't started earlier is that people don't want to spend time/money on getting new heros and trying out new strats. Because it's an investment in time to try out an unproven hero, it ends up being the same small amount of heros played over and over again.

I like the premise of the game, but it looks like it'll be implemented the same way Riot is doing LoL and I hate the way Riot works.

$29.99 for all future gods? That's quite the deal if you play for any length of time. I wonder what the catch is? The first expansion will be considered a different game or something? I'm TheRulesLawyer on there.

Probably not that many people will get it. The game is based on popularity so most likely the game will be dead within 5-6 months so best to get as much money out of people playing it now as possible.

IF the game does get popular, there are 100 ways I can think of to work around that $30 for all future gods.

Let's hear one. It's all current AND future gods.

Not that I think the devs of Smite would do this, but here is one example:

S2Games sold HoN for $30 for a while during and after beta. After a while (after mocking LoL's micro transactions system), they switched to microtransactions for new customers. Those who bought the $30 early on had access to all heroes. BUT if you bought a hero via the micro-transactions, you would get "early access".

That ended up being one of many reasons the HoN community shrank and could only cater to some 4chan-like cult following.

I started playing Smite just before the release and am a (very casual) LoL player. I like both, and I can definately see some added value to the back view vs top view. As LoL newbie I still sometimes look too little at the minimap. But if you don't look at it in Smite you can easily get attacked in the back as you can't see them coming unless you look at the minimap or turn around regularly.

I recently picked up this game as well and have been having lots of fun. It is a refreshing change from LOL since i play Smite more for fun than seriously.

The try hard mentality and abuse you got in game were getting old in LoL.

So, Hi-Rez had an update yesterday that included updating the most current version of Unreal Engine 3. Nothing significant in gameplay or presentation that I could tell, but no bugs caused. They also had quit a few adjustments to gods. Lastly, the released a new god, which I received as I had already purchased the $29.99 pack that includes all future gods. So, at least for now, they are coming through on their promise of releasing new gods.

Interestingly enough, they have new Acheivement badges, one of which you receive after mastering 100 gods. Well, they don't have 100 gods right now, but it would seem they are anticipating that many.

I'm still having dreams about this game. lol.

It's entirely different in Smite.

Been playing this game for quite a while now. Both the community and the gameplay are entirely different from LoL and that's why I play.

Fuck LoL and LoL players.

Smite is incredibly fun without the plethora of annoying children playing. Yes, there are annoying children playing Smite but they seem to be significantly less prevalent than other MOBAs, to say nothing compared to the disgusting community that is LoL.

Agreed, and if you stick to Arena and Assault modes, there's even less issues. Yes, you get your occasional whiner about killsteals, but other players will usually defend you, particularly since both modes are hectic and everyone is bunched up, it's almost impossible not to killsteal once in a while.

New game mode, Siege released (as beta) this week.

5 people, 2 lanes, some jungle and seige towers. I think its a nice balance btw the FFA craziness of Arena and the strategy of Conquest. Im sure in time the spreadsheet warriors will suck all the fun out of this mode too, reducing it down to a well choreographed routine but for now its very refreshing.

I think it also accepts a 4-man queue which is good for me.

It's not kill stealing, it is "kill securing". :D

I have been playing for the last week, and I am hooked. It is tons of fun. The gods available for free are just as effective as anything you can unlock, and there is enough variety that you don't feel like you are missing out.

$29.99 is a small price to pay to unlock all current and future gods, if you play as much or more than any other game you buy.

TACOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS!!

:D

Yes, the God Pack is an excellent deal. I play this game enough and I like it enough that I thought about the $30 God Pack like it was basically just buying a game outright. Hi-Rez certainly deserves $30 for the amazing game they've put together. It's not often in today's gaming industry where a game comes out this good and isn't pay to win or doesn't cost a fortune to buy the base game with more DLC to buy, etc.

I play this game several nights a week with friends on TeamSpeak. We have a blast. We play Arena most of the time for that fast-paced in-your-face action. When we have a full group or feel like playing more tactically, we jump into Joust and Conquest. We've been having a lot of fun in the new Siege game mode lately, though it can be quite frustrating when getting steam rolled.

Smite is one of those games that's going to be around a LONG time with a quickly-growing player base for the foreseeable future.

If you haven't tried it, give it a shot. Look up someone from this thread for a group. Check out the in-game streams of the better players or even the Hi-Rez employees playing to learn how to play or get tips to better your current game. A group of 3 of my guys and I were playing a game and we didn't even realize until about 8 minutes into an Arena game that the 2 other people on our team were Hi-Rez employees and we were getting streamed. :D

We absolutely creamed the other team and I had a chance to show off my l337 Arachne skills NOM NOM FACE NOM. :awe:

I got the God pack about a month ago and since then they released 2 new gods. They also have new icons for showing off the number of gods you've mastered in increments of 10. Right now you can only get up to a "50" icon, however for the first week they made these icons available, they had them going up to "100". I can't imagine they are going build up to 100 gods, but that would be awesome if they could.

Sounds like we need to have an arachne-off in Joust between our clans or something. :sneaky:

No clan here. I don't clan.

You'd probably embarrass me. I do consider myself a better than average arachne and I just love playing her.

Do you have a group of friends to play regularly with?
