SMC7004AWBR Wireless Router/ POP mail problem...grrrrrrrr.....

Okay, I took the plunge and bought the SMC Barricade Wireless router for my cable modem and a SMC wireless PC Card for my laptop so I could share the connection with my desktop. And, for the most part, it works really really well (I was pleasantly surprised to tell you the truth!) Anyways, I've got one *little* problem. I have no issues with HTTP, Telnet, or FTP either on the laptop or desktop (the desktop is hard-wired to the router via CAT5 BTW), my ONLY issue is the fact that I can't pull email from either my desktop or laptop! Every time Outlook Express goes to connect to my ISP, I get the error 'pop-server cannot be found'. If I unhook the modem from the router and back direct to the desktop machine, all works fine.

Obviously, there's a problem with my router config of some sort. I can't for the life of me figure out what though. I'm using Time Warner's Roadrunner service. Has anyone else had this problem? And hints?

BTW - SMC's tech support gets low marks from me. When I called Friday afternoon, the phone just rang and rang. I sent an email Friday that I haven't gotten a response to, and I've been on hold twice waiting for support today for close to an hour each time.

I can't find a way in the router config to open these ports. Any other advise?

I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem. I played around with it last night, reset the factory defaults and reconfigured, downloaded and installed the latest firmware, nada. Waited on hold for another hour last night and still never got to talk to anyone.

Thats what you have to do. It took me all of about 3 minutes to look at the online manual. If you have your manual, and it parallels the online pdf, go to page 4-18 and enable ports. If you dont have a manual go to the SMC site, get the manual and do it. It's really not that hard. You might get away with just opening port 110.

I've got the same SMC setup you do and must admit that I have not had this problem ever. It looks like OE is alright if you can access your e-mail directly but not through the router. Perhaps continue with ^ and make sure the ports are open. I'll check on mine when I get home.....

BTW, agree with your comment on tech support - I've never had any luck with them. That's why I appreciate the reasonably clear manual and website.
