SMC Wireless Router Woes...

K, i just bought myself a SMC 7004VWBR wireless router...
right now I'm just using it as a wired router because I havne't got any wireless cards yet... however, i find that its wired speeds are much slower than my old Dlink router...
i may consider switching back...
anyone have this same problem with this model or wireless routers in general?
also, how do i hook it up so that i just use this SMC router to be a wireless AP and use my old router as the wired router??
 
smc and dlink both have a cheaper value version wired/wireless router.
for SMC, it's the V model.
I'm suspecting the value model has slower speed than the original model.
 
What is slow?

Internet, or and traffic between Computers.

How did you measure the speed?
