does this come with a unit for the Desktop. You know what pisses me off is that you get a wireless card for you notebook and it doesn't come with a unit for the Desktop. WTF am I going to do with just a wireless PCMCIA card.

Depends on your needs. For example, get a wireless access point/router like the SMC 7004WBR and you can get a broadband connection to your laptop without ever touching a desktop. They sell these singly so that you can mix and match to suit your need. Some mfg do sell kits to save some $ in popular configs.

Do you need a direct line of sight for this to work? In other words can the signal go through walls or is it like IR and need a direct line of sight?

Like lungster said, 802.11b wireless really shines when you use it in conjunction with an already wired network. Buy an access point and plug it into your hub/switch/router, and now your wireless device can see all the PCs on your wired network.

I'm using a similar PC card from Linksys and an access point in my home; I can surf, VNC into my desktop PC (or if you have Win2K Server, check out Terminal Services!!), and stream MP3s to my WinCE device anywhere in the house.

802.11b uses RF on (I think) the 2.4GHz band, so you do not need line-of-sight.

This is a good deal on a good wireless card.

Loudmouth - No of course not. They are not supposed to come with an access point. If they did, the cost would be upwards of $300. Did your burner come with a computer? Notice, I didn't ask if your computer came with a burner. Big difference.
