Hi, I bought SMC wireless router and SMC USB wireless adapter, the router works very well, however, the wireless usb adapter does not. Each time I turn on the machine (cold start), the adapter just doesn't work, check the device manager, it says: the device cannot start due to error 10. then, if I restart windows (from start menu, blah blah...), then it works! I tried lots of times, the first cold start, it never worked, and it worked only if I restarted the windows...do you guys know what might be the problem? Thanks!

Look to me like a USB drivers problem, try to reinstall the drivers, make sure you installed the USB drivers for the OS that you are using.

If it keep doing it email SMC support, they are pretty good about returning emails.

I had almost the exact same problem last night, except my adapter would not initialzie no matter how many times I would reboot. I bought the SMC 2632 for my laptop, and when I would try to load the driver it kept wanting to load the drivers for XP instead of 2000. Upon reboot I would get the error 10 when I checked out the adapter properties. It turned out that the .INF file that was meant to load the 2000 driver had some error that prevented it from loading properly. My workaround was to combine the .INF file from the XP directory and the 2000 driver in a new directory. The system took the combination and so far my adapter hasn't had any problems.

I have tried lots of times...no success. Even reinstalled Windows 2000, no success.
Emailed SMC tech, they keep asking me to reinstall the driver...which I did... still get problems: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
help!!!

Do you have Mobo with ALI, or SIS Chip set (i.e. not Intel)?

If you do, may be you need an update of the USB root.

Yes, I hava ESC K7S5A V1.0 (SiS735?), and I have updated the BIOS with the latested driver from ESC... still have the problem.
so you mean the USB root update is separated? I searched SiS, didn't find any updates...
