SMC SMC7004VWBR Barricade 802.11b Wireless Broadband Router - $49.99 AR

I just picked up one of these from Fry's today. This is, in my opinion, a smoking deal. These a very full-featured devices. I had absolutely no problems at all getting it to work right out of the box. I have a Compaq iPaq wireless card (thanks radio shack!) that works just fine with it. If have been thinking of going wireless, go for it!

Guys i have a techincal question. If I have a router already, and wish to add a wireless router, can I take the output of the one router, and plug it into the uplink or WAN on the wireless? If so, will it work? My problem here is, i live in a house with some other people, and I cant take the existing router off, however i wish to add a wirelesss for my laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Just configure your wireless router as a bridge and connect it to any port except uplink and let the router you already have take care of the routing, works fine, I have been sharing my connection with my sister next door for the last 2 years.

Funny you ask that. I've been using the Linksys for a few months now. I decided to get in on this SMC cause my wireless signal wasn't too good. I was BLOWN AWAY. The wireless on the SMC is 5 times (minimum) as fast as it was on my Linksys. I'm keeping the SMC, and letting my old roomies have the Linksys. I've always liked Linksys routers (that was my 2nd), but I won't be using them unless I hear that their wireless has gotten better.

I am unfamiliar with the wireless aspect. This says it has one port for wireless on it. Does that mean you can only connect one computer with a wireless nic or can you connect mulitiple computers with wireless nics? This seems like a nice router since it has both regular ethernet connections and the wireless so you could do both?

Thanks,

Yes it is. It's only a network connection. You can share it with linux, unix, solaris, etc. Matter of fact, I am sharing with a G3 mac at home. And they are on the 3rd floor!
