Hi everybody,

I'm having problem printing through SMC's router/print server (7004BR) with Windows XP. The funny thing is that test pages and a lot of stuff prints well, but some stuff won't -- I get garbage characters as printout. And to make it even worse, sometimes the same data (the same page from Wod, for example) prints well and sometimes prints as garbage. A call to SMC resulted in unexpected advice -- throw our print server away :( Has anybody managed to get the SMC print server work for all applications in WIn XP?

I have a 7004BR and its print server works fine for me. I have a Samsung ML-1210 laser printer connected to it. Works fine with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Corel Draw, PhotoPaint, Internet Explorer, and everything else I've tried.

Here's a link for setting up the print server with Windows XP. It's a 19 page Adobe Acrobat file, hope you're not on a modem. ;)

Although on my XP setup I just installed the Windows 2000 version of the printer port software since I didn't bother looking at SMC's site until after it was all set up. Since it has been working perfectly I haven't bothered changing it.

Or maybe the problem is with your printer drivers? Does your router have the latest firmware? (1.94a, although for some reason SMC's site only has 1.93s now - strange...)

Thanks, Working'. I read and followed the same instructions in your link, still no luck. I don't have the latest firmware, where did you get it from? All I see on their web site is 1.93s. And when you say you installed the Win2000 drivers, do you meen you installed the SMC Win2K software from their web site and did not configure it through the TCP/IP port as in the link you quote?

I got it from SMC's web site - but it's not there anymore, just the previous version. Weird. If you PM me an e-mail address I'll send it to you if you like.

That's right. I didn't find the instructions SMC posted until after I set it up using the Win2k print server software. So I'm still using the Win2k software under XP since it works perfectly with my setup.
