I think I will buy this router, but I have a question about the ability to connect an external modem. Once I hook up the modem and setup the ISP, how will it dial to my ISP. What I mean is, do I just open my browser and it will automatically trigger the router to dial. Or will I have to "force" the router to dial.

I will be getting broadband within a couple months, and would like to get this setup with my current ISP, and then switch it over to a cable/dsl account.

Well if you getting cable, then you're router is gonna get its ip by dhcp once it;s powered on. If you getting dsl, it's gonna dialup (Read PPPoE) once powered one. Either way you won't need to do anything special on your computers.
 
The router can not dial.

The modem is the dialing agent.

I did not use this capacity of the Barricade, but the Manual has info about the use of a modem, and dialup connection.

Sharing the Internet this way is very slow.

If you don't really need a Router, wait until you get the cable service. By that time, the price will go down, or there will be more fancy product for the same price.
 
Jack: talking about a dsl modem here so should be fast. it's not really a dialup but to make a long story short, the router is gonna control the process like the os would with a dsl or regular modem
