Considering buying one of these to replace my crap Linksys. Been hearing good things are BOTH routers. The Barricade seems to have better hardware features though. What about software side? Which one is better?

Dunno about that, but the SMC has a print server, and redundant COM port for a backup analog modem in case your broadband goes out.

I got the Barricade & it's been great so far. Using a buy.com coupon & the mail-in rebate made it a sweet deal too. It'll stay here until 3com gets that new wireless lan deal out the door.

I spoke with SMC and their Barricade was my choice. According to a review eleswhere it had a faster processor than the netgear although i'm not sure about that. The best thing is that I've connected it to dialup also so when my cable goes down - as it always does - you can still surf without fiddling behind the desk - that said, dial up is so much slower by comparison
Good luck.

Another thing - the SMC techies told me there's an 11MB wireless version coming out in November - neat. It's an acces point with firewall, printserver and dialup - at around $400 - or so they said. THAT's my next purchase
