SMC Barricade and ICQ, can't receive files

I set up 5190 as the trigger and 20000-20039 as the incoming ports, and in ICQ it's set up as using firewall/not using proxy, with the TCP/IP ports as 20000-20019 on the first, and 20020-20039 on the 2nd. I can send, but can't receive. I have no ports blocked, and I've tried it with virtual server pointing to one machine and put in that IP, still no go. What am I missing?

Looks right to me. ICQ seems to work when it wants to.

Do you have any another firewall software installed? I can't understand ICQ at all. I have the same ports mapped using either my Linux router or Win2K Server as my gateway and sometimes ICQ will not always work. Other times it works just fine. I am tempted to dump it in favor for instant messenger.

hi, the thing is that icq is gonna send the files using those ports but to receive is another things, it's gonna receive on random ports chosen by the other party trying to send...if u want it to work, u'll have to tell ALL ur contact on icq to use the same range of ports which is not really practical...never could make it work unless using security to medium = opening all the ports from 1024 to 65535

Well, that explains it. I opened up all the ports, now I can receive, but I have no firewall. Thanks, ICQ. Guess it's time to switch to AIM. Thanks for explaining it, Dark, I was wondering what was up.

Hate to say it but ICQ has issues with firewalls. I don't think they documented everything for us. As far as IM, I have used MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger, and AIM. Microsoft finally got the MSN one up to snuff. Yahoo is very flaky on connections. I often lose my Yahoo connection even though MSM and AIM are still plugging along fine. AIM is nice and stable and does allow you to check for new email which is half the reason I run it at work. For firewalls, AIM and Yahoo are probably the best. I did have some problems setting MSN messenger up to play nicely with the firewall.

odd... I got ICQ to work on my Linksys. I just forwarded 20000-20019 to 192.168.1.101 (my 1st comp), and listen ports 20000-20019 in ICQ. hmmm

I don't know if I can forward a range of ports, it looks like I can only tell it an individual port. I'll check it out, though, thanks!
