SMC 802.11b Repeater?

Is this what this product is here?

Will this allow me to repeat the signal from my initial wireless router? It says "Wireless Range Extender" so I assume it's capable of doing that. Also, I can't seem to figure out if it only works with SMC access points or if it will work other brands.

Thanks for any help.

I do not think that the SMC device you mentioned can repeat.

D-Link 900AP+, and Linksys WAP11 are Entry Level Access Point that can be configured as Repeaters.

D-Link 800AP+ is sold as a repeater.

General Info.

Wireless Network - Configuration Modes.

I went directly to the source, SMC. Apparently it functions like a wireless repeater, but only with one of their routers right now. It can function as a wireless repeater on itself, but it loses half of its speed. Can anyone recommend some wireless repeaters that function with any 802.11b device? I would prefer not to use Linksys or D-link. I just don't like those brands from bad experience.

Well the repeater function is actually considered proprietary by each company, (i.e. if you call D-Link and ask them if their 800AP+ will repeat a Linksys router or some other manufacturer they will tell you that 1. the repeating function is proprietary, not part of the 802.11x standard, and each manufacturer will do it a little bit differently, 2. they do not support such a configuration, 3. you can buy it and try, good luck with it, and don't call back looking for support if you're using only D-Link products in your network.)

It probably will work though on all access points though, I have tried repeating a Linksys BEFW11S4 with a D-Link 800AP+ and it worked fine, you just need to make sure you get the LAN MAC of the router. But I haven't tried repeating other devices so I can't say if it works with everything.
