I ordered within an hour of the first post.
I had done this deal with another company for 369.00

One email from Buy, stating that my order was on it's way, about 2 weeks ago.

Still ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

:(

UM I have a question!!! I was just looking at the plug in for this thing and its not an American plug-in. It has two big round poles instead of the slot type we use. Anyone know what the story is with this and can I use a regular computer power cord for juice on these things. It says 100-240V~50-60Hz 0.5A.

I received one of the switches that I paid for. Awaiting my other two.

But notibly, it did NOT come in white box. It is same full retail box as the 'free' ones. i guess I can't complain after all...

Anyone Else notice the Message on the buy.com 888# they state that effective March 30th they will be moving to Email only support?!?!?!?! It sounds like buy.com is having to save some money... could this be yet another Victim? Only time will tell.
Thanks,

addendum, my cousin bought ONE switch 3/6/01. He received his free one last week. Today, the same day I got mine, he received the one he paid for in a RETAIL box, PLUS one in a white box. What gives? I ordered 3!!!

I am pretty pissed off! I ordered two for a total of 4. Three came retail box and one came white boxed. It looks like it was like that because different warehouses had different items. My free one did have the correct power but I am very upset with the one whiteboxed unit!

I was concerned about the possibility of BUY.COM in cooperation with SMC "solving" the "free switch problem" by sending out a mixture of "good" and "rejected/returned/defective/whatever" product (translation: "white-box switches") in order to reduce the exposure to loss on the "mistake-deal"...but I held off speculating, hoping this wouldn't be the case. (If intentional, I suspect BUY.COM could be unaware of this, i.e. this could be something being done behind BUY.COM's back...maybe even accidentally.)

UPS should be delivering my second switch today. I'll let ya know what package I receive; I'll be testing the two switches tomorrow.

AGAIN, THIS IS ALL SPECULATION

I received my first switch a week ago, and just received my second "free" switch a couple days ago, both of which were in retail packaging. It funny though, the same day I received my second switch, I called Buy.com and asked them where it was and they told me they had no idea and that they couldn't give me a tracking number. But when I arrived home from work, there she was just sittin on my porch.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

I got one in white box and one retail... However, the white box is the same box as what is packaged under the retail sleve and shrinkwrap....

I don't think that there's gonna be a quality difference at all. But that's just my opinion. and SMC does have lifetime warranty and 24hr support.

Fatboy, I too received a European electrical spec. cord/plug. A standard Computer/Monitor electrical vord will work find. Call SMC if you would like and I'm sure they will be happy to send you an extra electrical cord as well.

Got one OEM/White box too... There seems to be relabled european units as if you look at the original sticker covered by the new one, says the Model # plus -EU. Got the right plug in mine. Tested it out and the switch seems to work fine. Doesn't looked refurbed or anything (at least from what I can tell)... Looks just like a OEM whitebox unit to me.

My account didnt reflect the free switches. Buy.com said if you didnt like the white box switches request and RMA, they only sent them out because that was all they had and they were trying to cover their backs. Looks like I got the right plug with my switch. If my white box switch doesnt go on e-bay, then I will RMA it and get a retail unit. Like I said before 3 out of my 4 switches were retail. (It depended which warehouse it shipped out of; Two came from PA, One came from TN, and the one from CA was white box)

Just to let ya all know I did call and they said all's I had to do was plug in a regular computer cord to it. If there was any problems with that just let em know and they would send me a new one no problem. It work'd just fine with computer cord.

My free switch arrived today. It was in retail packaging. Well, it seems as though Buycomp is coming through on this deal.

I have a question for all of you. I order 2 (+2 free ones for a total of 4) originally, and refused the order when the UPS man brought them to my house. Now weeks later, I received two switches that say promo in the packing slip. Should I assume that Buy.com made a mistake, and these are free? I am just hoping they don't charge my card. If they charge my card sometime in the future, is there a way to dispute the charges?

Well, you could always hold onto it for awhile, until you're positive Buy.com isn't gonna come knocking on your door asking for their money or switches back.

But personally, I think you should just let buy.com know and offer to send them back w/ their coverage of shipping. If they won't cover shipping or simply don't care, keep 'em!

Well I got both of my switches. Both of them were in color boxes, look new to me. Shipped seperately with about two weeks between each package. I already sold one of them to a buddy of mine for an 8 port switch and $40...Ill have my work cover the cost of the other one and set it up there, and I come out ahead with an 8 port switch, which given I have one already gives me 13 ports for fun. :)
