Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits CD: GRR!

So finally a CD comes out that I wish to actually purchase. Evil, I know.

The CD is the Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits double-CD set, only 11.88 at Target. I listen it all day in my car while battling the throes of mercenary shoppers today. Very nice.

However, tonight, after coming home from that Harry Potter movie, I pop the CD into my CD-ROM drive.

Friggin' record industry. This must be the fabled "CD Copy Protection" crap. The sound is all stuttery and each track plays no more than 1 minute.

What the- the-the. Woah. What the hell. I just bought this CD and you're telling me I can't play this in my computer. What gives. This is supposed to protect the record company's revenues how? Like I almost want to return the CD.

OK, I might be a little pissy tonight.

As a side note: You know you're getting old when your favorite band in high school already has a greatest hits CD. I bet, to today's Staind-Bizkit crowd, the Smashing Pumpkins are like Lynrd Skynrd and sh*t.

I know what you're saying. Smashing Pumpkins used to be the sh!t when I was in high school too.

That album looks like it rocks. All the songs in the first track are like classics to me.

there is way around it but i forgot. if i got one of those cds, id make a backup copy and return it and tell them its a defect. its defective since it doesnt work in the computer. then the store will have to return it to the ppl who sent them the cd. after all the defective returns, they will notice a loss in money and will eventually will have to stop that copy protection. i dont mind the copy protection but if it invades your freedom to use the cd on a computer, which is very legal, then screw the cd protection.

Ignoring the dumb copy protection thing, the album is very good, especially for $12. First CD is classics, and 2 unreleased tracks. The second one is almost all unreleased tracks. Very good. The booklet is cool too, with lots of photos.

on the 1st cd, with all the greatest hit songs, i don't understand why they left out one of the best ones, "thirty-three" it had it's own video and everything, yet they included stuff like "eye" which as far as know, was not a greatest hit (it had no radio play or music video).

most of the stuff on cd 2 was actually released on their machina ii album

I truly think that every song from Mellon Collie was pretty damned good; that album was epic. They probably couldn't possibly represent it correctly on one CD. I remember i had "Eye" on my Lost Highway soundtrack. I think they only reason that they'd include it is to show the trasition from the straight rock of MCIS to the more electronic Adore type stuff.

I'm really confused as to why they didn't put Try Try Try on there. It's a great song.

Must..buy..DVD. Unless that sh*t is copy protected too!@#!%

All DVD's have protection using Macrovision 😉 But I know what you mean, I'm just being an ass.

try try try is my favorite song and video. it's not on the cd? i only dled it, but it's track 16 on cd1 for mine, that's weird.

I know what you guys mean, I feel like an old geezer when I wanna knock one of these Bizkit homies upside the head with some real music. When I was in High School, the Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden were my two favorites bands. Siamese Dream, Pisces Iscariot, and Gish were definately my favorite albums though. I'll have to boycott buying this new CD if I can't even play it in my computer, what a gip.

hmm, i just checked cdnow.com and the track listing there has track 7 as Landslide, which mine doesnt. guess this release wasnt the final retail release.

if anyone cares, you can *legally* dl the entire Machina II album and its 3 EPs in mp3 format at 320kbps from the official smashing pumpkins page:
http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/lofi/M2pgLOFI.html

has an awesome alt lyric version of try, try, try

Landslide IS on the CD. Although I don't know which track it was exactly, I did hear it.

I was wondering why my CD wouldn't play on my computer. :|
