I guess billy realized that he would make the same amount of money just giving away his albums now 😛

Last album sold over 700,000 copies, not too shabby.

Considering the artist gets about 50 cents per album at best, the agent takes 10%, 4 people in the band, thats 78k per person.

Theyd have to make a killing on tours/merchandise to do anything of significance.

"gets about" is as vague as possible. Google search shows anywhere from 50 cents to 2 dollars. It all depends on the artist contract. That is also albums sold and I assume does not include individual song downloads from itunes and other services. It also does not include sales of the single.

The real money is the touring. 20,000 people in an arena @ $50 a person is one million dollars. That is for a single nights work. That doesn't even count merch sales and such.

Take out all the fees, promotion, touring help/travel and all involved, I bet they still make probably 20k a night each.

I'd say they make good bank.

How much do T shirts at an arena show go for these days, 30 or more? That's a pretty good margin.

yeah, people really don't understand the music industry...it's not a big bank on records for most, but if they bust ass and make hits....it's a nice life.

It's funny when people cry about being a rock star.

boo fucking hoo, I am drinking/partying maybe, screwing all that walks maybe, but in the end I am 'playing' each night.

Billy Corgan on Vocals/Rhythm Guitars
Billy Corgan on Lead Guitars
Billy Corgan on Bass
Billy Corgan on Drums

Pretty much the same line up as on Siamese Dream and Infinite Sadness. It was all Billy and Jimmy. Darcy and James were just there for show.

Having said that -- they haven't done anything worth a damn since Adore.

Probably lots of filler like on their doub le length melancholy album. Some of the songs on thaþ we comedically awful, just spectacularly terrible.

As is the case with most double albums, it would have been a killer 8 - 10 track, single album.

i agree wholeheartedly on Melancholy / Infinite Sadness.

Here Is No Why and a couple other tracks are good... I always thought Bullet With Butterfly Wings was pure shit, and it got a ton of play time on the radio. wtf

I strongly disagree... The phrase, "The world is a vampire" was pretty much generation defining.
i liked Gish and Siamese Dream.

the fact that so many people could relate to "the world is a vampire" only showed me how emo and douchey people were at the time.

all their new shit was a vampire, because it SUCKED. 😛 😛 😛

You all are way too harsh on Billy, even though he is an emo bitch. All you haters on Mellon Collie need to go diaf, every track on both discs was worth listening to. As a matter of fact I just listened through the whole thing about 2 weeks ago!

Sounds a ton like the people in this thread. Yeah he has a ton of money, but he released a free album and everyone is giving him the big middle finger for it? Give me a break.

They'll be releasing the songs in 11 4-song EPs for people that want to pay for artwork and sound quality. But they'll release the songs one by one on MP3 for free. Basically the same model as Radiohead's In Rainbows. If they sell 1/10th the number of discs but control the profits entirely, they make more money overall and a lot of fans get it for free. Everyone wins.
