Seriously, we need 1995 back. All I ever see outside is screens and people hunched over them. You can put a Bulldog right up to their face and squeeze and they still wouldn't look up. And most every company wants your data and life now never mind the apps. If I hear app one more time . . . .

I had Android rubbish and its a joke. Same with iOS. All this always connected always online always social rubbish is ridiculous. Candybars that talk and text are barely acceptable. Damn I want the 90s back. :'(

STFU, go do your crazy person rant elsewhere.

I have no problem with them unless you're using them while driving. If so, GTFO the highway (especially the bitch that hit me in the rear because she was piddling on her phone and wasn't noticing that the line of traffic was not moving yet).

I would actually argue that it is being forced. More and more sites and things require facebook. I find that to be a conflict of interest personally. If the trend continues you won't even be able to get a drivers license w/o a facebook account.

I don't use a single application or site that forces you to have a Facebook account.

The issue is a lack of self control. Like what are you really going to accomplish riding the elevator or while walking.

Stop walking, sit down on a bench, do your smart phone business, get up, continue walking. There, now was that so hard?

I agree with you. I am also fed up with these smartphones and social networking sites. They kill lot of times of mine.

In order to live peacefully with no social tension, people would like to go back in 90's. But don't say bye-bye to smartphones. I just can't be away from those large screen phones <3

Oh yeah I actually get annoyed with people who race for their phone the second it makes some kind of sound. Like they'll be in the middle of a conversation and actually end the conversation to check it.

It's always funny to see too because they start scrambling for it even though it's in front of them. It's like a huge panic mode to see what that notification was about.

This makes me crazy. Hey, if your brother is in surgery or you are waiting to hear if the repair shop has figured out what's wrong with your car, then fine - grab that phone. But some people are indeed conditioned to look at their phone every single time it makes a noise.

A few months ago I had to "counsel" an intern for that very reason, suggesting gently that when we are in a meeting, no matter how many other people are there, it's inappropriate to keep picking up the phone every couple minutes. That led to a discussion where he was trying to sell me on multi-tasking as an defense, but that didn't work very well.

Phones off during meetings, lunch, dinner, etc... It's not important and you're not that important.

That's my motto for myself and everyone else. Phones off. It's not an age issue. I don't care if you're 25, 35, 50, 90, etc. I've seen older people ignore conversations because they were too involved with their smartphones. Totally inappropriate.

This is also a big problem in Asia. I taught in South Korea. I would stand at the door and my students would put their phones in the basket before they entered my classroom. Many protested. In the end they had no choice.

I don't think smartphones need to die, but I agree that people need to back off a little bit with their usage. It really is a sort of addiction, and I can't say I am not guilty of it from time to time myself.

In the winter months I do a fair amount of my running on the indoor track at the local YMCA. It is a small track (11.5 laps = 1 mile) and there are two lanes, one for walking and one for running. You need to pay attention to be courteous to people moving around the track at different speeds. It is amazing how many people in the walking lane spend the entire time looking down at their phone. They are oblivious to the fact that they are weaving in and out of the running lane, blocking traffic, etc.

That was a real eye opener to me and I really started to back off on how much I access my phone.

On the other hand, try traveling to a country where you don't have access to the network and see how cutoff you really are. In this day that sucks terribly. Somehow we just need to find a happy medium.

that doesn't suck at all, that is exactly what a vacation should be. i love going on vacation and not having service and not paying for roaming fees so that my wife and i can't get service. i am not one of those that is glued to my phone at all, but my wife is.

i carry my phone around on vacation just to take pictures though, along with another camera for the most part.

I wasn't talking about vacation (where I agree, being cutoff is fine), I was referring to work. I have had a some overseas trips in the past couple of years where I didn't have network access. That isn't any fun at all.

I'm sure it is. Unfortunately I am on Verizon. At least they now have this $10 a day deal in a bunch of countries so I can always use that if needed.

Only $450 left until my phone is paid off. Maybe I can switch to a different carrier then ;)
