My note 2 had 17% left with 1 day 21 hours and 15 minutes on time before I plugged it in today

Nothing magical about the G2 - it has a 3000mAh battery which is significantly larger than its direct competitors (S4, One) as well as having the improvements with the S800. The Note 3 actually has a 3200mAh battery while sporting a much larger screen.

The G2's battery is about 15% larger than the S4, but it can literally almost double the S4's battery life. The S4 just burns through mAh faster when doing the same tasks. The S800 counts for some, but when you look at the LG Optimus G Pro, which uses an S600, you still see more impressive battery life than an S4, and much slower mAh drain.

I"m convinced it's a combination of Samsung's AMOLED screens, particularly with applications that aren't optimized for them (meaning anything with a white background, which is a lot) plus the fact that Samsung's got 3 different procs in the GS4 and probably isn't properly optimizing for all of them. Everything I've read seems to indicate the Exynos powered GS4 can last a day with moderate use, so I'm thinking Samsung's Android build is optimized for that CPU and not Snapdragons. I'm tempted to obtain one for myself to see for myself, but I'm annoyingly happy with my G2 anyway. :)

You know, there's a zillion GS4 variants out there. It'd be interesting to compare an Exynos with one of the carrier S600 models, and compare both of those with the Google Play edition, and try to get a sense of hardware and software effects on battery life. Throw in that S800 model they sell overseas too.

A platform by a company in trouble with no software, or real developer support to speak of, is a paperweight. If you don't believe me, go look at the success of OS/2.

OS/2 Warp killed OS/2. Man, what a support nightmare.

Oh, I see...

For you Smartphone=Child's Toy

May I recommend this

http://www.tabeo.org/

Probably more up your alley

You might have to take a break from World Of Warcraft when your Mom calls you for dinner. Have her set it up for you then.

Its nice to see BB users still defending the platform. Your time was up ages ago

My cousin's monstrous Note 3 w/ extended battery is pretty good. Of course it makes every other phone look paper thin.

Time for a stupid question. Does higher battery capacity ALWAYS mean longer charging times? My GNex can get a full charge in about an hour (which I love, but it dies quick which I hate) and you compare that to something like an ipad which lasts a shit-ton longer but it takes a lot of hours for a full charge. Is that always going to be the case?

Pretty much when we're limited to 2A chargers... We have *some* room to play with in that many older phones run at even lower currents. The GS2 ran at 650mA for example for AC charge. That's been increased to 900mA in a Nexus 4. Potentially if you see batteries start breaking 3000 mAh in capacity, perhaps they can wire the circuits to take 1.5A or 2A even for charging to boost times.

There's a limit, but we're not there yet. Plus, with faster charge times, you degrade the battery more, so it's not like charge rate comes free.

I am so fucking sorry I mentioned Blackberry.
My mom still uses them and so do all her lawyers.
I still see the texting fiends at college with them.
Did not know they would spark so much hatred on the forums.

Some chargers are already doing 2A, or at least the phones are capable of pulling it if plugged into an appropriate charger. It helps. A lot. Trust me.

My note 2 can drain faster than it will charge if used on a weak power supply. I'm at the point where I dont even buy chargers unless they do at least 2 amps, ideally 2.4.

Same here. My Note 3 with its 2a charger and USB 3 cable charges from 0-100 in less than 2 hours. I replaced all my chargers with 2a or higher. Even my GFs S3 charges faster on my chargers.

Translation: "you're right but I really don't want to admit it so I'll say something stupid and hope you'll go away."

No, it's that it is pointless to argue with someone that thinks:

"blackberry = doorstop" is less of a reach than "android = toy"

So in other words, it's too difficult to argue with reality, so you're going to continue to live in your fantasy world? Clearly your grasp on reality is tenuous at best if you think android a mere toy, and Blackberry to be worth as much as a good solid doorstop.
