I used to be such an avid user of SmartFTP but they've bogged down recent versions with it's vista style file copying and trial periods.

Filezilla is a great alternative, but such a crappy interface. :(

I use FlashFXP but it's not free. I also use Filezilla on one of my computers and it's decent for a freebie. Gets the job done anyway, although I agree with Snapster that the UI is kind of crappy.

i like WS_FTP Pro ... again, it is not free
but it works very well and has a nice,
easy to use interface.

I've been using Filezilla for 4 or 5 years now, so I don't notice any crappy interface at all. :)

That sucks... I loved smartFTP, I still have the first version that I don't think has the forced upgrade thing if anybody needs it let me know.

FileZilla, I'm not really content with it though. SmarFTP is much better, although I mostly use TotalCommander now, which has a built-in FTP client. However, it's not free either but you can use it fully without a licence, you will just get a reminder that the program is shareware each time you start the software.

FileZilla and FlashFXP.

FileZilla as others have said is freeware. FlashFXP is not, but IMO has better options. Comes with a 30-working-day trial.

There is a free program call Classic FTP that looks exactly WS_FTP used to. I've used it and it works well.

I used to use SmartFTP, but now I use FileZilla. FileZilla has improved a bit recently.

Why not just keep the last free version of smartftp? It isn't like the ftp protocol has changed.
