smartfan2 at max speed still gives hot temps...

I went out and got myself a smartfan2 today. Here are my results:

Previous setup:
2125mhz 1.5v tbred-b, sk7 w/ 39cfm sunon @ 60c~ full load

Current setup:
2125mhz 1.5v tbred-b, sk7 w/ 75cfm smartfan2 @ 60c~ full load

I thought a stronger fan would help bring down my temps but apparently it doesn't. Now I just have a really loud 80mm on my sk7. Even when I turn down the fan to an acceptable noise level I get the same temps. This really defeats the purpose of getting the smartfan in the first place. Any suggestions?

Is the fan blowing onto the heatsink? Did you remove the heatsink before you put the fan on? Maybe you can reapply the heatsink with a fresh application of AC3 and see if there is any changes.

I didn't remove the heatsink before I changed fans. I've remounted the heatsink numerous times before I got the smartfan to make sure it was seated properly so hopefully it is. Remounting just gets annoying after a while :frown:

My experience with the ThermalTake SmartFan2 was it was loud and provided no better cooling
that lower CFM units that were less expensive - so, I yanked it back out and replaced it with a
Y.S. Tech Adjustable from SVC
It cools very well and is quiet, can provide more airflow on demand with a turn of a knob.

I have removed and replaced every single product I have ever obtained from ThermalTake,
I think that their advertising is their strength - but their product is a weakness, pure crap.
I no longer purchase anything made by them.

I'm probably going to get a 50cfm sunon or something around that spec. Anyone have any experience with the 80mm vantec tornado? I imagine it doesn't have the loud whine of a smartfan2 but more of a 80x38 deep whir. I've had a 68cfm 80mm delta before, anyone know if it's similar in noise?

fast fan blowing hot air onto a heatsink is a waste. cool your case before cooling your cpu. my cpu fan is a wimpy 12cfm on a xp 2000+ polomino and i stay at 55C easy.

my case is 28c, 5 80mm 40cfm case fans in my antec. I live in cali so that's probably the lowest I'll see this summer.
