its a dumb thief and an OK commercial. A smart thief would have worn a hat and/or sun glasses, maybe a fake mustache

this guy clearly looking at the cameras is ok because he obviously wants to make sure the TV stays hidden, but to look at the camera gives his face away to be identified for what would easily be charged as grand theft just about anywhere

I understand why they did it for the sake of advertising but they should have given him a funny pair of glasses/mustache to make it more believable and ultimately funnier during and after the fact
