Smart Media Formatting Question

I tried uploading some songs on my Nomad 2, and then all of a sudden there were a bunch of garbage characters. I exited the program and went back in and then it couldn't read my smart media card. The Nomad just says, "No Media Detected" now. I tried formatting the card in my digital camera, and it seemed to erase everything and it works in there. But it still says "No Media Detected" in the Nomad II. How do I get the card formatted properly for the Nomad?

Have you tried formatting it with the Nomad II Manager software? It's got that functionality built in.

(funny enough, a "reverse" version of your problem, my digital camera couldn't format a smartmedia card, so I put it in the Nomad II and format it with the manager. but after that, it worked fine in both the camera and the Nomad II.)

You don't have a smartmedia standalone reader do you? Could also come in handy, I like using that to upload songs to my Nomad II better. It actually had an issue formatting the same smartmedia card, but once I updated the software for the smartmedia reader, it was able to format the same card just fine.

Did you install the Nomad II Manager update after installing the original Nomad II Manager software?

I've had very bad lucky with Nomad.... first I lost the CD. Thanks to Vinnie I got the software I needed. I installed the software on one computer and it worked great... unfortunately I just went back to college and had to install it on my computer there, but the computer just freezes with a black screen and green lines at the top when Windows recognizes the USB connection and tries to install the drivers.

I ended up finding a Mac, and downloaded the Mac software from Creative (which strangely enough doesn't require a CD). Just when everything seemed to be working... the smart media got corrupted. I didn't see a format option in the Mac software. When I get to a friend's PC I'll install the software and look for a format option.

I don't have a smart media standlone reader unfortunately.

"black screen and green lines"

Eh, weird, I can't explain that one at all, I've only seen that on TNT cards when overclocked too much 😉

I think I've gotten the black screen with green lines sometime else, like when I plugged in a TV tuner card that didn't work or something. It must be some sort of conflict, but I have no clue what to do about it.

Can you boot the system into safe mode and check for duplicate devices?

Or how about bringing up the general computer properties under device manager to see how the irqs are distributed.

Is USB enabled and assigned an irq in the system BIOS?
