My 25 year old son lives with autism as his daily challenge, he has worked hard to overcome many issues & is currently in college & doing well. I started small, a cheap net10 cell phone, which he cherished & cared for, last Xmas I upgraded him to a Virgin Mobile Optimus V which he has loved & cared for. Got him an inexpensive Asus laptop for his birthday which he practically had a heart attack of excitement over.

Nothing beats yesterday though.. I gifted him with a Kindle Fire HD, I helped him set up an Amazon account & talked to him about online shopping safety, I shared an Amazon Prime invite with him. We searched the free Prime movies for Anime & got a ton of freebies. My son is very formally polite, he always says thank you for gifts but never have I seen such expressions of joy over a gift! He was smiling from ear to ear & showing off pics of the kindle to his friends on Facebook.

Technology is amazing, my son finds it easier to communicate via text or message, these devices really have enhanced the quality of his life!

I agree with that. My sister a Kindergarten teacher and she has a student that cerebral palsy. He uses an Ipad to communicate with his classmates and his teacher. Technology is amazing

Technology is one of the great equalizers.

And I find myself talking about tech gadgets with everyone. Seriously - it doesn't matter the age, background, gender, IQ (from those with mental disabilities to true geniuses), education, etc of the person, so long as they even have a slight interest I find myself having good conversations with people about phones, tablets, laptops, etc.

It's not the only thing I talk about with friends, family, and acquaintances, but it is something lately more than ever that nearly everyone has at least some interest in it.

That's fantastic!

I am very close to a special young guy who attends school via robot because he's pretty sick. He's the first in his state to do so and was, I think, second in the country. Technology for those who have disabilities has truly come a long way.

This put a smile on my face :) I bet he's a great guy with loads of potential.

Oh my son is a total prince :) He has really bloomed in college, he has actual friends, goes out most weekends & has made giant leaps in his social functioning abilities. He's studying to become an accountant, he feels that being able to crunch numbers will land him a job where he can work at least somewhat independently & will pay well enough for him to live.
