After reading about partially hydrogenated veggie oil and how it's going to give me antlers and who knows what else I thought I'd try some more natural stuff.

First I bought Smart Balance Omega PB. All it has is peanuts, salt, and some omega 3 additives. And I'll be damned if it isn't some nasty sh*t. I thought it tasted like fish. Mrsskoorb thought I must be jacked, so she smelled it, and yep smells like fish. Tastes like it, too. How? They don't add fish oil, they use flax seed, but many people on the net have found the same thing about this sh*t. Nasty awful crap.

Next I bought a jar that had as an ingredient peants. Not even salt, just peanuts! Opened it and spilled the oil. The stuff takes forever to stir. I realized that I've quite possibly never had natural PB in my life. I'm so used to the fake stuff that doesn't separate. Anyway, this stuff tastes like peanuts :) Not as yummy as the hydrogenated so I will still experiment with sweetening it a little with sugar, but otherwise not bad.

I ate a jar of that stuff, it wasn't too bad (wasn't good either) on my veggies.

To each his own, I guess. I've been eating that for about 6 months now. It's never even remotely entered my mind that it smells like fish. Tastes like Jif, but less sweet. /shrug

Leave your natty pb jars upside-down in the pantry. When you open them up, it'll only be one quick stir because the oils will be on the bottom.

I get the Smart Balance PB all the time and it tastes fine to me. I have however noticed that this last jar had an oil blend of flax seed & palm fruit listed in the ingredients as opposed to only flax seed oil on my previous jars.

Making your own = the win.

I've switched to making my own almond butter. I like the natural PB but have developed a taste for almonds as of late. Almond butter is a bit harder to find at normal stores than natural PB. I haven't tried making my own PB, but it's the same overall process - just gotta source some unshelled unsalted peanuts. :)

Yeah I find it disgusting as well though it doesn't taste like fish to me.

I stick to Smuckers all natural.

I like Costco's organic creamy peanut butter. I don't eat it because it's organic, rather it's the only all natural creamy PB at my costco, and it's cheap.

Smuckers all-natural...that's all you need. When you first get it...open the jar and pour/scoop all of the contents (including the oil) into a bowl. Use electric beater to mix, and use a spoon to scoop it back it. It stays "homogonized" for a really long time after that...and is so much better than "sweet" peanut butter.

The two best peanut all natural (ie, "ingredients: peanuts") peanut butters I've tried are:

* Teddie Super Chunky Unsalted Peanut Butter
* The peanut butter grinders at Whole Foods that let you grind up your own peanut butter from fresh peanuts (usually near the bulk nuts, seeds and other items)

If you have trader joe's nearby, their house-brand peanut butter rocks and it's cheap.
