Who makes the smallest notebook?
I know fujitsu has a full featured one and Sony has one too.

I'm looking for one with long battery life and basic web browsing (wireless)

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Toshiba has a mini-notebook, too. Winning lots of awards, I hear.

Also, Sharp has a transmeta-based book (for extra-long life with extra-light browsing) As far as tablets go, check out the ones that can dock and work as a desktop LCD when plugged in!

thanks for that dynamism link.

anybody know of any sub $1,000 notebooks? seems like they are all above 1k.

i can probably get a wirelss pcmcia card. so the only real requirement would be long battery life.

Please post the OLDER models if you remember them. I might try to find one on ebay or something. I like the 10" or smaller screens. 400mhz is good enough.

Thanks

Wait for Centrino...

But Centrino won't be cheap but lower cost Cintrino is supposed to get here someday. IMO Pick up a nice superslim notebook like Sony 505 series/SR series, Toshiba Protege (not all are slim), HP Omnibook 500 series, Compaq Evo N400c. The list goes on forevever, as long as you can settle for P3 500mhz-1ghz performance you can get it fairly cheaply.

I am all about the superslim notebooks and have owned quite a few, some are better than others, just depends.

I purchased a new one a few weeks ago. Libretto L5, not sold through normal channels in the United States, but available through Dynamism.com. Tiny and well-made costs money. You don't get that combination at a really low price, and the really tiny systems are not multiple spindle (more than one drive) designs. This particular unit has a magnesium alloy case, first rate build quality, and the most gorgeous little TFT screen I've ever seen (1280x600). And the keyboard is stupefyingly good for such a tiny system. I have Rachmaninoff-sized hands, and I was touch-typing without error within a couple of days -- despite the fact that the keyboard layout is a bit unusual.

Anyone who's interested in well-done portable computing technology should definitely try out that Dynamism.com link. Their sales and technical support are as good as it gets. The tech support people with whom I've dealt there are smarter, more knowledgeable, and more facile in dealing with my questions than any other computing support person in memory. It's not just that they know what they're doing, but they are flexible in their approach to issues. They work with you instead of trying to mold you into a compliant customer. It had been so long since I had seen that attitude that I had forgotten that it was possible! I don't remember being taken care of this well since I bought a 275 GTB/4 in 1968! (Trivia points to whomever knows what that was.)

so anyone recall any older models that I can search for in maybe refurbs or something?
All i need is something to run XP. 400-500mhz should suffice. i dont care for internal cd rom as long as it has a usb port.

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-C1XS (picturebook) that I might be willing to part with.

400 MHz
64 MB ram
12 GB Hard Drive
Built-In 56k
PC-Card CD-ROM
USB Floppy
Two Batteries
Built-In digital camera (still and video)
blah, blah....

It's a great little unit, I just don't use it enough.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Nicholaus
