Smaller, quieter, cooler PS3 coming this autumn

Didnt read the article nor do I have a PS3, but if the PSU is internal and they do like they did with the PS2 Slim (take out PSU and use adapter) then that would be cool. Unless the PS3 uses a powerbrick already.

The PSU is internal but can get smaller as the power use goes down with the die shrinks.

Eventually they can shrink the cooling system, combine chips on the motherboard, and simplify/consolidate the blu-ray drive electronics.

So you'll soon be able to have a PS3 in your living room without feeling like you are living on a sub-tropical heli-pad.

I don't understand what that's supposed to mean? Mine is almost dead silent and it's a near-launch 60GB. The 40GB is supposed to be even quieter.

It's a heater.

😕

I have mine in an 3/4 enclosed entertainment center and after an hour mine sounds like it is attempting to take off. I'm pretty sure I could use it to inflate a hot air balloon. 😉

Smaller footprint may be nice, but I can't say I've ever heard mine while running. And since I have the hardware ps2 chip, not planning on changing mine out.

There has been 15+ versions of the PS2, so I imagine if the PS3 has a 10 year lifespan like they're talking, it'll have that many revisions as well.
