Smaller black specks on the bottom of the Brita Filter, Safe?

I'm not talking about the larger ones on the top of the brita filter, but i notice minor amounts of smaller black specs in the bottom of the pitcher. I googled this but im not finding solid evidence of it being safe. Brita, the manufacturer says it is safe, or "food grade" whatever the fak that means. I would take it with a grain of salt.

Anyone know if it is 100% safe to drink?

I think it's little pieces of carbon from the filter, no?

Brita's manual says it's safe, I doubt they would have lasted on the market as long as they have if it was unsafe to drink those. Typically if you soak the filter ahead of time it wont do that.
 
wash it out. usually the black carbon flakes sit in the filter chamber on the top. When they get out of the filter or whatever they're usually in the pre-filtered chamber. I rarely, if never see it fall into the main water holding chamber.
 
I scoop them up and add them to my own special Hollandaise sauce.

I have the giant Brita filter and always get those black bits floating around the top of it. Very easily could be at the bottom too...but the nozzle wouldn't let that come out.

Like others said...its just charcoal. Just extra minerals!
