Small Video Capture Project: NEED HARDWARE ADVICE...

I have to assemble a very small video for projection via laptop + LCD projector. Video is a for a family function so quality is somewhat important. I do have to capture some video from VHS tapes for the project.

I am trying to decide the minimum hardware I would need. I have plenty of storage space, but what I need is a capture card.

Currently my video card is a Matrox G400 32MB. I love this card and it 2D capabilities (I don't do any gaming). However, I have found a great deal on Radeon AIW 7500 that could replace my G400. Worried about loss of 2D if I go this route. Also will the AIW do the captures I need.

My other option, as I see it, is to get a $50.00 Hauppage card or a dedicated ATI video capture card.

What do you, the experts, recommend? I do not want to spend tons of cash as I will only be doing thsi project once and that will be it for my video editing/production.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and advice! 🙂
